Yeah, That’s My Kid At The Top Of The Play Structure, & She’s Fine

May. 5, 2023

IT'S FINE!
Yeah, That's My Kid At The Top Of The Play Structure, & She's Fine

Today, Julia Williamson is thinking about the time she watched her two-year-old climb to the very top of the play structure, utterly confident. She was proud and trusted her daughter's abilities. The other moms? Maybe not so much "But looking around, I see some other mothers giving me some serious side-eye. I suspect they must think I'm wildly negligent. I've had parents ask whose child that is way up at the top, did I realize she'd gone so high? Didn't I recognize how dangerous it was?"

Well, now she's defending the importance of letting your kids do stuff that might make your heart beat a little faster just watching them.

What You Should Know About Well-Child Visits

One of the best things a parent or guardian can do to protect their child is to take them to see their pediatrician for routine well-child visits. This way doctors are able to check on growth development, nutrition and behavior, and recommend vaccines and immunizations needed to stay healthy. Not to mention, check-ups also allow pediatricians to monitor for any problems, so they can be addressed quickly.

With over 25+ primary care locations across the Bay Area, Stanford Medicine Children's Health is nearby to provide care for your child. Check out the primary care locations and pediatricians at stanfordchildrens.org now.

Well, Ashley Schuster Downend's kids are too old for naps, but she managed to pull off a pretty neat trick: she never quit naptime. "I still need regular breaks from sibling squabbling, demands for snacks, and requests for the latest Descendants songs on Spotify. If anything, I need it more as they get older and their needs get more complicated. I am still, after all, a sensitive introvert, but now my household is even louder and more chaotic. I need time during the day to reset — quietly and alone," she writes. Read to find out how she did it.
