Summer vacation has arrived for most everybody in America by this point. So, quick show of hands: How many of you are already DONE? Let's go to the Scary Mommy Confessional for a quick check-in. One reader says: "Summer is not fun for stay at home moms." Another admits: "I am a yes mom all summer. Just let me enjoy it too." But some people live for these lazy weeks: "I actually love having my kids home all the time. I can't relate to the parents who dread it."
If you want to scream into the Confessional about the roughly 9 million wacky and borderline dangerous things your kids have already done since school ended, the link here. And if you want to browse past Confessions, head here.
Your search for a scandalous summer read officially ends here. Emma Rosenblum's "Bad Summer People" is a stylish and subversive dark comedy that takes place in Salcombe, Fire Island, an exclusive summer haven hungry for gossip… until a body is discovered off the side of the boardwalk. This thrilling satire about infidelity, backstabbing, and murderous intrigue explores what's lurking under the surface of picture-perfect lives in a place where everyone has something to hide.
It's hard getting enough sleep as a parent. Emily Weaver has the stats: "On average, adults are supposed to get seven to nine hours of shut-eye per night, yet a recent Snüz study revealed that most parents are getting a fraction of that. In 2021, the sleep brand surveyed 1,300 parents, 70% of whom said they lost an average of three hours of sleep per night during their baby's first year. By their kid's first birthday, they had lost 133 nights' worth of sleep." So she talked to an expert about some things that might be messing with your sleep… well, other than your kids. Check it out.
