Mompowerment Thoughts

Hi read,

How are you today? How has your summer been? It's like this summer has slowed things down a lot and flown by all at the same time, or at least that's how it's felt for my family this summer.

School just started for our boys and we were READY! If summer is winding down, I've got tips to help you ease back into your morning routine. If you're already back to school, some of these can still help you get back to your morning routine quicker.

Getting back into the school groove isn't a light switch. Ease into the school year by starting to take steps now to help create or adjust your morning routine. I've got a whole blog to help you create a morning routine and I'm sharing 5 tips to get you started:

  • Ease back into your sleep routine. If your kids are like mine, summer means later bedtimes and wake-up times. Start adjusting 10-15 minutes each day to get closer to the right sleep schedule and wake-up time. You'll be thankful you did!

  • Consider what you want from your morning. Want to have a few sips of your coffee while the house is still quiet? Want to move your body? Looking to create a moment for meditation or journaling? Whatever it is, you can find time – even a few minutes – to include it in your morning routine.

  • Use the night before. Having a morning routine starts the night before with planning your day and getting bags/backpacks, clothes, etc. ready.

  • Create formulas and habits. You want your morning routine to partially be a habit. That gives you the mental space to deal with whatever might come up. For example, consistently do things in an order. Create a formula for kids' lunches. Try these out during the summer. Start developing the habits because those don't happen overnight either.

  • See if you can fit in a small moment of self-care. Small, consistent self-care moments can really make a difference for working moms. It's part of starting the day on your terms.

And as with anything else that you're changing up, give yourself some space and grace to figure things out and to hit your stride.

Have a morning routine that you need to retool? Check out my blog on improving an existing routine.

What changes will you make? How can I help? Don't need to make any changes because your morning routine is smooth sailing? I'd love to hear what tips you share with your friends who might be struggling.

Looking forward to hearing about your morning routine,

Suzanne

PS Another thing that helps with your routine is already having things labeled. Check out my favorite personalized stick on labels from Mabel's Labels so that your child isn't losing items and contributing to the school's lost & found. (affinity link)

PPS I've been working on some new things that I'll be sharing in the next newsletter!! More to come on a new resource to help you create more of the work-life balance you crave!
