BIG FEELINGS
Help! My Kid Is A Demon At Home — & An Angel At School

Tell me if this description from Samm Davidson of her son sounds familiar: "His volatility is unmatched, with a short fuse and a complete inability to hide any raw emotions. Finding out he needs to accompany me to the grocery store doesn't result in an eye roll — he's been known to fully Hulk out, yelling, throwing stuff, and stomping around. And if a sibling razzes him at the dinner table, forget it."

So imagine her surprise when she went in for a parent-teacher meeting and got a glowing report. It's not just her, either! "Lots of my friends (and yes, I surround myself with parents of other mischievously astute and strong-willed children) reported getting wonderful reviews from teachers despite a lot of not-so-wonderful behavior at home," she writes. It's a good thing to keep in mind about your kid's behavior as we all head back to school. Give it a read.

Why 'But I'm A Cheerleader' Is the Queer Camp We Need Right Now

"But I'm a Cheerleader was the movie that made me feel seen and understood," writes Amber Leventry today, revisiting the iconic indie movie from 1999. "It wasn't just a wink and a nod, it was a, Holy sh*t, yes, that. For so long I had been forced and persuaded in similar ways to 'dress like a girl,' fall in love with a man, to live a 'normal' life. I knew all of the ways those demands didn't work for me, but to have a movie articulate those reasons was validation." And while it's over 20 years old, Amber argues we need it as much as ever. Check it out.
