Happy Friday to you! We've been working on some big and small things this week in the name of frugality in our household. We generally work together and do things as a team, so that's what this week entailed!
First, we made some car changes. We sold a car and got it off the insurance. We also changed ownership of another car and called to have it taken off insurance as well. This allows us space on our parking area for the cars that are being driven. We need to get our garage space useful in the coming weeks, but that's a project for another day!
We also indulged in some free fun. We're playing a game on a Scrabble app between family members, and it's been super fun. It allows for healthy competition between our family, and it's free. I think it takes our game night into the wild! =}
I spent time tying loose ends with my quilting. I'm involved in several service projects, so there were quilts that needed binding, labels, and backing cut and pieced. Usually with a service quilt, there is a donated set of fabric to work with, so I'm also brainstorming good quilt patterns to use with what's available! One of the things I love about quilting is that it uses all the things. It uses the fabric to the last bit, and that's super frugal to me. Now, quilting might not be an inexpensive hobby, but it does use everything!
We celebrated a frugal anniversary recently, as well. We chose not to go away for it, which was good because a lot happened while we would have been away. (We lost power and had to make other arrangements to be cool until it came back on, among other things.) On our anniversary, we went downtown to main street where there are lovely shops and several used bookstores. I found handmade soap for a good price and bought rose bars and lavender bars. They smell amazing! These are far more frugal than body wash by my calculations. My husband Doc found several useful books, and so did I. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day, even though it was quite inexpensive!
One of the things on my plate to work on is a rearrange of my storage space. I have donation fabric that needs to be housed in a closet, and a handy closet that will need a bit of clean out. Right now, the space isn't being used well. I'll need to find other places for the things that are in that space, so it will take time. That will make room for donation fabric and finished quilts to be stored away from pets and out of my dining room! It'll be a win all the way around, but a bit of a switcharoo! I enjoy rearranging when it works out well, so I'm excited! And what's more frugal that making the best of the space I have?
I hope my rambling about frugality helps you somehow! It's just a few of the life choices that make up a frugal existence that is anything but boring! Happy Weekend!
Stacy
