DC visits Batman in 1989 for a new mini-series that looks great while still offering up four different Batfuled titles this week. Image is offering up a little bit of everything with a few eagerly awaited trades and a new title Crave that offers up some interesting ideas. Marvel moves forward with Gang War, the dead rising, and Howard turns 50. Sponsored by All C's Collectibles who has two locations to help with holiday gift ideas and needs, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Predator Vs. Wolverine #3> TIME TO BLEED! The most gruesome chapter yet! Years after his first encounter with the Yautja, Wolverine's gone feral - just the way the Weapon X program likes him! If the Predator thought the mutant was hard to kill before…now, he'll meet the real beast. But the prize this time isn't just the kill. Now Wolverine carries something precious within him, something a Predator's never encountered. An indestructible metal that would give the hunter the edge over prey on any world… (S) Benjamin Percy (A) Hayden Sherman, Ken Lashley, Kei Zama
Smurfs Take> I tend to avoid these mashups. More flash than substance, but every so often there comes along a hit and this is one of those moments. The approach of the last two issues has been fantastic and has been a hit way above the mark for me. Delivering a story that works, staying true to the characters and art that works so well has been refreshing. It's great and hasn't been done this well since Superman Vs. Aliens!
Amazons Attack #2> As rumors of the Amazons' true nature spread far and wide, our heroes take Manhattan! Turns out the Big Apple isn't the only apple to worry about as fruits from the Goddess of Discord enter the scene and poison the minds of men. Will our ragtag group of Amazons ever be able to find shelter from the cruel world that prays for their downfall? (S) Josie Campbell (A) Vasco Georgiev
Smurfs Take> Amazons take Manhattan! I enjoyed the first issue, but I like the characters more than the story if I'm honest. I do like that DC is taking some risks with characters under the new "Dawn" marquis and exploring different directions with them. My only fear is they get too silly and find themselves in the weeds quickly.
Edenwood #2> Rion finds himself deep inside Edenwood and immediately on the run from the demon military, which consists of armored tank divisions and patrolling beasts with razor-sharp teeth. Rion sees the beauty and the horrors of this magical place before meeting powerful allies who question how he acquired the armor of one of the greatest demon killers in history. (S) Tony S. Daniel (A) Tony S. Daniel
Smurfs Take> Well, the first issue had everything, and still left me wondering and wanting more. Definitely here for the first story arc just to see how this all comes together but liked the first issue enough to pull me in.
Flash #3> After the arrival of the Stillness last issue, the alien speedsters begin traveling around the world, with Max Mercury watching their every move. Meanwhile, Wally encounters another former foe who's gotten a major upgrade–the Folding Man–while entering a new location beyond time called the Gallery…what hidden truths does this place hold for the Flash? (S) Si Spurrier (A) Mike Deodato Jr.
Smurfs Take> I had my reservations about this title. I like Wally, Barry hasn't been too bad over the past few years but I figured the "Team Flash" was just going to be too much and annoy me. I couldn't have been more wrong. Great to see Max back and the approach so far has been fun with some great reads taking advantage of having multiple speedsters to focus on. I hope the trend can continue as the story moves along because I can see this becoming overwhelming fast.
Spider-Woman #1> GANG WAR: FIRST STRIKE! The Web of Destiny restored Spider-Woman's life, but even CAPTAIN MARVEL and MADAME WEB can tell something's changed. Now SPIDER-MAN wants to recruit her for a new team because VIPER has engineered a deadly union between HYDRA and DIAMONDBACK that's about to tear the city apart, bringing forth a new foe powerful enough to destroy the city while burning Spider-Woman's world to the ground. DON'T MISS OUT on this action-packed premiere that features CAPTAIN MARVEL, SPIDER-MAN, VIPER and DIAMONDBACK…and introduces a terrifying new force of evil in SPIDER-WOMAN's world!
(S) Steve Foxe (A) Carola Borelli
Smurfs Take> I'm not really here for the Gang War story line to be honest. In fact, it doesn't interest me at the moment and the whole thing seems overplayed. But I am here for the Spider-Woman story and a character that Marvel has tried to do something with and I hope this time is successful with. All of the spider characters created over the past few years still can't compare to her in my mind and the potential for her is huge.
Saga TPVol. 11> While Hazel and her family fight for scraps to survive, the rich and powerful race to forge new allegiances in the universe's never-ending war.Romeo & Juliet meets Star Wars in this genre-blending, sci-fi/fantasy space opera about star-crossed lovers from enemy worlds. An epic for mature readers, SAGA follows new parents Marko and Alana as they risk everything to raise their child amidst a never-ending galactic war. A multiple award-winning, critically acclaimed masterpiece and one of the most iconic, bestselling comic book series of its time. The SAGA series has sold over 7 million copies to date across all formats, has been translated into 20 languages, and has garnered multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards, plus a Hugo Award, British Fantasy Award, Goodreads Choice Award, Shuster Award, Inkwell Award, Ringo Award, and more. It has been featured in such mainstream media outlets as TIME, Entertainment Weekly, The Atlantic, NPR, and beyond, and has become a pop culture phenomenon.Collects SAGA #61-66 (S) Brian K. Vaughn (A) Fiona Staples
Smurfs Take> Still my favorite Image title to date, and this is more of a reminder that you need to pick up the latest story than anything else. So, now's the time to get caught up if you've been waiting or just revisit the last few issues.
