Secret Love Triangle - Review
Jess dreams about celebrating with her husband, Matt, and their two best friends, Robert and Robert's wife, Lori. Lori and Jess met in college and started a successful bakery. Lori wants to expand, but Jess thinks it's too fast too soon. Jess wakes up in her jail cell because her cellmate, Michelle, jostles her for saying Matt's name in her sleep.
Jess writes a letter to the Innocence Project, but Michelle tells her to give it up. They won't help if Jess doesn't have new evidence. Jess says Matt hired a private investigator to uncover new information. Jess swears she didn't kill Robert in a lover's rage. Matt visits Jess, and she asks if the P.I. found anything. Matt shakes his head no. Then, Matt drops a bombshell. He wants to call off the P.I., sell their home, and move out of state. Jess knows Matt is leaving her, too. She begs for more time, and he agrees.
On work detail, Michelle, after having her early release rejected, breaks free of her shackles. Then she knocks out the two guards and jumps in the officers' van. She gives Jess one chance to go with her, and Jess jumps in the passenger seat. Michelle drives to a wooded area and decides to dump the van. She tells Jess to run with her, but Jess wants to return to town and prove her innocence. Michelle hugs Jess and runs. Jess has no idea the tangled web she will unweave.
The mystery of why Jess is in jail is better than who killed Robert. The opening scene is the two couples at the party after Jess and Lori talk about the business. In the blink of an eye, Jess is in jail. This smooth revelation will give viewers whiplash and make them lean in. Then, the plot reveals why Jess is there and who she killed. The audience has two options for a perpetrator because Jess declares her innocence, and Robert is the victim. You will pick the antagonist after a few flashbacks and some Lifetime experience. This film starts strong but falls into the formula at the end.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
We're your only friends - Matt
You're gonna drive yourself crazy with this stuff - Michelle
I'm not looking for a miracle. I'm looking for the truth - Jess

My Wife's Hidden Lover - Review
Phoebe's husband, Ethan, reprimands her for not finding his coffee tumbler. She asks him to look in his car, but he still blames her. Ethan leaves for his job as Mayor, and Phoebe runs to the attic. She kisses Lucas and brings him downstairs. Phoebe agreed to let Lucas secretly live in her attic for six months while he wrote his romance novel. She became his muse, and they fell in love. Lucas wants to make their love public when he completes his book. He can use his advance to buy a home, and she can follow her mayoral dreams. Phoebe warns Lucas that no one will vote for a woman who left her husband for another man.
As Phoebe juggles her husband and lover, Lucas's desperation grows. He wants Phoebe to commit to him. Later, Ethan admits to being a cruel husband and begs for a new start. Phoebe agrees, and Lucas overhears. Lucas threatens to expose their love affair, but Phoebe gives up. She tells Lucas to leave her home and exits to meet Ethan for an important announcement. Ethan arrives at the steps and berates Phoebe for not putting out an ironed shirt for him. She swears she did, but Ethan's verbal assault continues. Ethan screams at Phoebe not to attend the function. Phoebe returns home and runs upstairs, apologizing to Lucas. She finds Lucas dead on the attic floor with a blanket over his face. Phoebe calls her best friend, Jim, for help, but he doesn't answer. She calls the police but lies because it could affect Ethan's political career. Ethan returns and expresses regret for his actions. He asks Phoebe to come again, but she says no. Ethan yells and walks out. Phoebe has nowhere to turn. Later, the body disappears, and Phoebe is pregnant. How can she evade this mess without ruining her future and Ethan's career?
Lifetimers take a deep breath because this story's protagonist is hard to find. Phoebe needs a backbone and therapy. She buckles no matter who shows her affection. Ethan puts her down and says, 'I'm sorry,' so she wants to start a new life with him. Lucas tries to be Ethan's opposite but slowly becomes controlling. He is jealous of Phoebe's relationship with her husband. He demands times, dates, and a commitment. Whenever Ethan acts out, Phoebe runs to Lucas. This plot is an 'everyone sucks' storyline, except for Jim. He is the only honest person in this film. This movie has a whodunit with unlikeable characters.
I give it 3 out of 5 stars
It has to be perfect - Lucas
I miss you too. I miss us. The way we were - Phoebe
Where's my dry cleaning - Ethan

A Christmas Letter - Review
Leslie is a foster mom to 6 children - Sam, Wendell, Joey, Chucky, Shay, and Ariana. She prays for peace while drinking her morning coffee. Siblings Wendell and Sam open their bedroom window. Sam climbs to the roof with her letter to Santa. She turns it into a paper airplane, prays, and pushes her letter into the wind. Leslie meets with her friend, Claudette, to talk about the repairs. The contractor wants 50% of the money before he does the work. Leslie has no idea how to come up with $50,000. She needs to get the repairs done, or the city won't give her a certificate of occupancy, causing the kids to return to the system. Leslie has faith that things will work itself out. Until then, she has Claudette and Claudette's love of power tools.
David enters the study and finds his dad, Robert, sleeping with the window open. He shuts the window and updates Robert about his daily tasks before going to work at the post office. Robert wheels himself to the window and picks a letter. He wants to have a heartfelt conversation with David because today marks a sad anniversary. David doesn't want to talk. He grabs the letter from Robert's hand, assuming it is a to-do list. Then, he leaves for work.
Mr. Charles and Mrs. Milan Chatsworth rush into Leslie's home. They want to adopt Sam. However, Leslie doesn't want to separate Sam from her brother, Wendell. They were approved for adoption and want Leslie to sign their recommendation to adopt Sam only. Then, Charles offers Leslie $50,000 to agree. She throws the Chatsworths out of her home. Soon after, David comes with the mail and offers to play hockey ball with the kids. Before leaving, David offers to give the kids a post office tour and let them put their letters to Santa on the mail truck to Santa's house. Wendell overheard Leslie's conversation with the Chatsworths. He comes up with an idea. They will get on the mail truck and tell Santa their wish in person.
Leslie needs a break, and Claudette suggests they go to a bar. Leslie saunters into the bar and finds a red-haired woman massaging David. She gets upset and leaves. When Leslie sees David in the morning, she hints about the other woman. The kids come downstairs before David can clear the misunderstanding. David takes the kids to the post office and introduces them to his co-worker, Hank. Hank shows them the mail truck is going to Santa's house and takes their letters. Leslie and the kids leave, and Hank puts the last bag into his vehicle. Then, Hank breaks his phone while he shuts the door.
Sam and Wendell get Joey and Chucky to squabble and distract Leslie on the walk home. The siblings run to the post office and hide in Hank's truck. Hank unknowingly drives away with Wendell and Sam in his vehicle. Leslie realizes she is two kids short when she gets home. Shay reveals Sam and Wendell's plan. Leslie asks Claudette to watch the kids while she runs to the post office. She gets there, but Hank is gone. David considers calling Hank but remembers his phone broke. David knows Hank's route, so Leslie wants to follow Hank to retrieve her kids. While they follow the mail truck, Robert and Claudette brainstorm ways to save the foster home. They will need a Christmas miracle.
The best way to describe this film is cheesy but in the best possible way. This movie has the best balance of humor, romance, magic, community, and religion. It's for the entire family and will reaffirm your children's belief in Santa. Everyone has a wish and a greater purpose. This movie teaches that those may not be the same. David dreamed of being a hockey player, but a tragedy derailed him. He discovers that it is the path to something greater. All Leslie wants is a safe place for her and her foster kids. Her dream brings a community and family together. One paper airplane will make your heart smile. So, sit back and enjoy this easy-going and delightful holiday film.

Christmas Revisited - Review
Ida and Jo sit and chat in Nate's cabin while waiting for their old college friends to arrive and celebrate Christmas. Mer and Johnny are first, and Cameron follows. The group can sense that the tension between Jo and Cameron is thick. Jo turns her back on Cameron and focuses on work. Everyone groans because Jo puts her work ahead of everyone. Nate's mother, Mrs. Carolyn, enters the cabin to greet them. Nate wanted them to get together before he passed away. Carolyn is happy to see his cabin full of life again. However, this friendly getaway will turn combative because everyone hides something upsetting about themselves. Also, every person holds an old grudge. These friends need to work out their issues or dishonor Nate's memory.
Nate was the lynchpin that held this group together. He initiated get-togethers since they were in college and demanded to see someone's face when they talked. Without Nate, they wouldn't be friends. Since Nate died, their friendship broke at the seams. At first, they pretend everything is fine. Soon, they start seeing the cracks. It's easy for a viewer to connect with a character from this ensemble. And the script balances drama and comedy with ease. This movie is a marvelous way for OWN to end its 2023 holiday season.
