#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! This week could have easily been all Image titles with such an impressive strong release of choices on the shelf. Marvel also has something to offer from every core title with Gang War leading the charge. While DC has Batman facing off with the Joker, again along with himself and the Titans go deeper into Beast World. There's only 18 shopping days till Christmas and our sponsor All C's Collectibles is a great place to find a gift for that hard to shop for collector…. You know the one, but in the meantime, we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Transformers #3> THE BIGGEST LAUNCH OF THE YEAR CONTINUES HERE!
Outnumbered and overpowered, it's time for the Autobots to stand their ground, as Optimus Prime goes toe to toe with Skywarp! (S) Daniel Warren Johnson (A) Daniel Warren Johnson
Smurfs Take> What can I say? This has far exceeded any expectations for a Transformer story and we're only on issue three. Everything to this point has been flawless and just not for Transformer fans but comic fans as well with its pacing, character choice, and setting. It's successfully merged the best qualities of the TV show and the original comic and can't wait to see more.
Creepshow Holiday Special 2023> CREEPSHOW is here to put the fear in your cheer!
You've heard of Santa, you've heard of Krampus, but have you ever heard of "The Christmas Man"? Witness the birth of a new horrifying holiday classic from DANIEL "DON'T CALL ME SANTA" KRAUS (The Shape of Water) and jolly JONATHAN WAYSHAK (Skin Crawl)!
Then, jovial JAMES ASMUS (Survival Street, Rick & Morty) and lively LETIZIA CADONICI (House of Slaughter) deliver a cautionary tale about stealing the wrong parcel in "Package Thief." (S) Daniel Kraus, James Asmus (A) Letizia Cadonici, Jonathan Wayshak
Smurfs Take> Oh, this is a perfect Christmas come early gift. Just something great happens when you get to mashup horror and Christmas! Have loved the return of this title and keeping with the tradition set by Creepshow from back in the day, perfect title.
Birds of Prey #4> Chaos reigns as the first mission for the Birds of Prey has (unsurprisingly) gone sideways. Even with the collective battle prowess of her hand-picked team, did Black Canary bring enough firepower to fight their way off Themyscira?! (S) Kelly Thompson (A) Leonardo Romero
Smurfs Take> I've been waiting for "something to happen" and it looks like it's finally going to. While the writing and development has been good it just feels like this title has been slow to get out of the gate and I keep waiting…just waiting. I want to like this title; I really enjoy the characters but so far, it's been a slow Dawn.
Daredevil #4> DON'T MISS…BULLSEYE! BULLSEYE makes his bloody entrance into Matt Murdock's new life, and Hell's Kitchen is caught in the crossfire. As the bodies pile up, DAREDEVIL is forced to make an impossible choice between stopping his deadliest enemy…and saving the soul of his friend! (S) Saladin Ahmed (A) German Peralta
Smurfs Take> I haven't been as "sold" on Daredevil as I was with the previous creative team, and I really liked that story line a lot. Thus far Daredevil has gone back to its middle of the road and not taking a lot of creative chances approach. That said it's hard to resist a Bullseye story as it feels like this is something that's been hinted at two creative teams ago and just might be the kick this title needs to get going again.
The Sacrificers #5> The dark tower and the bright castle. The princess and the pauper. The future written by the past. Some things are eternal. Some things must be changed. (S) Rick Remender (A) Max Flumara
Smurfs Take> This week it was Waid Vs. Remender for the five spot and to be honest I'm enjoying Sacrificers more than Shazam. To be fair they are very different types of stories but I'm finding myself pulled more to the characters Remender has been developing. This has been a compelling story with amazing art and love the direction it's gone since the first issue and in true Remender fashion no idea what's going to happen next.
