It's Saturday evening. I've made tea of the Chamomile variety. Apparently, Elv is going to continue into the night with his project of transforming the basement utility room into a bathroom. Most often we play Scrabble in the evenings between reading or listening to music. So I have tea alone, unless you count yourselves as my company.
The married children decided to take us all out to dinner this evening. They left their children at home or with sitters. That made ten of us sitting at table in a northwoods-y place where they brought us fry bread and our salads first. I also asked for their baked Brie appetizer. Yummy food, but it was the people around the table, mostly, really!
But before we went I had fluffed this room with a dusting and straightening for our return. I took this picture and sent it to my sisters and Mom on Whatsapp. We have been trying to share what we are doing with each other more. They responded with gladness that I'm living in the stone house again. Guys! I've been back for almost a year. What's this about?
"There's where I left you." said April, who has been gone from Wisconsin for almost 25 years. "I have memories there."
My sis Amy, who often uses more words did that to say this place was one of her safe places to land in her teenage years.
Once more, may I say this. Make home your best way wherever you are, because you have no idea who all you are impacting. Make it beautiful now with whatever you have. Live well right now, even if it's not perfect. Memories are being made. Somebody needs a safe place today.
Elv dismissed this shelving unit from his study this week. So I gathered it up and adopted it as mine. Welcome home, my pretty. I love wood. It's so rewarding to swish on some varnish. The glow and warmth that emerges is comforting.
Brad may reclaim it when he sees it. I'll risk that. Anyway he ought to if he wants it. This was one of those pieces that he created to help make his cabin bedroom home to himself. Books and boxes of bullets and boy things lived on it for ten plus years.
Decorating the top of the piano was a great diversion for me this week. Besides it needed to be done since I hadn't after getting it moved downstairs to where it belongs. There's that again. 'Where it belongs.' Who gets to decide, I ask you! But it did seem to be a thing.
New bathroom colors. I want warm and bright cottage colors. A little saturated,I know, but yes. The bathroom is situated next to Elvs study which is all wood walls. So I'm dreaming of old and warm. There's no vintage tub on claw feet, but I want you to wonder why not, when you see the room.
This time of year makes me desperate for green leaves and flowers, and this winter is even more desperate with no snow to speak of. A fresh bouquet of roses is a big deal around here and was much appreciated. Two weeks later, I really do need to tip them for drying.
This is the best time of year to move the couch, vacuum under the beds, and clear out the old shoes and broken toys. Get yourself some Murphy's oil dusting spray. Refold and organize the linens. Why are we keeping so many magazines? Did you still wear all those clothes clogging up space in your closet?
Spring will come, I promise. Let's wash windows around here soon. The tea is cold, goodnight.
