#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! A loaded week all fighting for the top spot. And any given week all of them would be the top pick because they have been that good and there's really no losers just questions on what to read first. Marvel by far delivering the biggest assortment with the huge Alien and Predator stories starting. DC continues with Joker Year One and Godzilla taking it to the Justice League. While Image finishes the terrifying Haunted Girl and breaks another record with Span #350. Smurfs High Five is sponsored by the All C's Collector's Showcase April 5th- 7th with limited vendor table left, get em while you can; in the meantime, we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Ultimate Spider-Man #2> THE MOST SURPRISING SPIDER-MAN STORY OF THE 21ST CENTURY CONTINUES! Spider-Man faces his first super villain! J. Jonah Jameson's quest to uncover who is really pulling the strings of this new Ultimate Universe leads to a shocking revelation! And New York City welcomes its newest hero…the Green Goblin! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Marco Checchetto
Smurfs Take> I don't know what I was expecting. Everything is just a little different from when we were last here. The first Ultimate Spider-Man series just hit at the right time and holds a special place in the collection because of that. Messing with it or going back would only run the risk of destroying that, but the first issue was gold. So much so I went through it again right after reading it the first time. It's something new, love the take and position of the characters in the space and even walked away with questions about what's next. Something I never thought would happen and comic fans around the world should get on this title now…it's going to be fantastic.
Cobra Commander #2> After last issue's shocking reveals, Cobra Commander searches for a power greater than any the Earth has ever seen.
But when this mission brings him face-to-face with a fan-favorite G.I. Joe faction—will they be friend, foe, or something else entirely? (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni
Smurfs Take> The only reason this did not take the top spot is because of one thing. But to be fair that is also one of the cornerstones to the story and I might not like it but it does work well within the story. It's also a commitment to detail and the cartoon movie to see the use of Cobra-La in a way that pulls the story together. That said, this was waaaaay better than expected and absolutely loved the last page, also sheds light on what's going on in the Transformers title. Brilliant.
Star Wars Visions- Takashi Okazaki #1> TAKASHI OKAZAKI RETURNS TO THE WORLD OF THE RONIN ONCE MORE! We've seen THE RONIN as a Sith slayer...but who was the Ronin before? See the early history of THE RONIN and his SITH origins in this one-of-a-kind VISIONS Special! Featuring THE RONIN from the first season of the hit Disney+ series, STAR WARS: VISIONS! (S) Takashi Okazaki (A) Takashi Okazaki
Smurfs Take> One of the best and my favorite story of last year. This was perfection! I would love to see this as its own ongoing title separate from the main Star Wars cannon.
G.O.D.S. #5> The clinic has a wall covered in words. They are written in the blood of men, but no one can read them. Mia gets her first apartment. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.
(S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Valerio Schiti
Smurfs Take> What is there to say other than…..wow. Not in a bad way at all, but just to witness this evolve from a creative process is mind blowing. I honestly think Hickman has been sandbagging this whole time from just how well this story and characters have been thought out and put together.
Batman Superman Worlds Finest #24> HEIR TO THE KINGDOM – Part Five
With no way back to their own Earth, will Superman and Batman have to witness the tragic events that led to cataclysm–or are they fated to take the place of their doppelgangers? (S) Mark Waid (A) Dan Mora
Smurfs Take> The story has been good. Nothing that blows the doors off but just a solid story that expands on a classic fan favorite series that left the readers in awe. As I've said before, the best part is the Superman/Batman dynamic and where you really see Waid's love of the characters and the series come through.
Void Rivals TP Vol 1> The blockbuster Oblivion Song team of ROBERT KIRKMAN and LORENZO DE FELICI launch an all-new shared universe connected to the Transformers and G.I. Joe!
??
War rages around the Sacred Ring, where the last remnants of two worlds have collapsed around a black hole in a never-ending war.???
??
However, when pilot Darak and his rival Solila both crash on a desolate planet, these two enemies must find a way to escape together. But are they alone on this strange planet? And what dark forces await that threaten the entire universe????
???
Collects VOID RIVALS #1-6. (S) Robert Kirkman (A) Matheus Lopes, Lorenzo De Felici
Smurfs Take> The launching point for the new Energon universe that everyone is talking about starts here. This is a must have and read Trade no question about it aside of the obvious connection to the bigger world the story is great and Kirkman excels in his ability to create character driven content while avoiding the obvious tropes. Issue #7 is out in March, get caught up before it hit's shelves.
