Chaplain's Chat
Galatians 5:19-26 "Now the works of the flesh are evident; sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I waned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another or envying one another."
What a contrast we see in these verses. One is the work of the Holy Spirit in us; the other, Satan's handiwork. The fruit of the Spirit are the qualities Christ Himself embodied. By unifying ourselves with the Holy Spirit, these gifts will blossom and grow within us. Without being tapped into this Ultimate Poser Source, those efforts will wither and fade on the vine.
We need to love with abandon, feel and show joy without restraint, desire Christ's peace in our hearts, so that our watchwords become forbearance, mercy and patience. We will show kindness, goodness and gentleness toward others, and faithfulness toward the Lord. All these things are impossible without Christ, but tapped into His vine means we will be fed by His Spirit.
Heavenly Father, help us to attach ourselves to You, the true Vine - and show those fruits of the Spirit to those who come across our path each day. Bless us and our families I pray in Jesus Name. Amen.
