Today I got to spend the day with a friend, on a grocery shopping trip to "Jungle Jims." I know what you're thinking…." that's a dumb place to hang out!" But, Jungle Jims is not just any grocery store. It's a destination. Tour buses bring people on adventures to Jungle Jims. They have everything there! And when I say everything, I mean it! Well mostly, unless you ask my youngest daughter. (see note below*).
Some of my favorite things to see there are the eggs. They have your standard fare of eggs, but then they have the tiny, beautiful quail eggs. I was told that there are special, tiny scissors for cutting the shall, because you definitely can't break them. Right next to the quail eggs are the Ostrich eggs. They cost $ 80+. I can hear the breakfast conversation in my head, "How many eggs do you want for breakfast kids?" I'm not sure, mom, what kind are they?" I can only wonder what I might use a huge, $80, ostrich egg for, because once you crack it, I would think that you need to use it up fairly quickly. That's "one giant omelette for eight, coming right up!"
I also like to peruse the unusual cuts of meat. Alligator steak anyone, for a side with the omelette? Or how about kangaroo steak. Mmmm, that's some good eatin'!
They also have a huge selection of wine, beer, and liquor. Need Honey, they sell big jars of that. Looking for fresh Korean, Chinese, or South American vegetables for your next dish? Egg rolls, special noodles or fortune cookies for a side dish? Or maybe you're cooking up some Italian cuisine, or Greek, or Mexican. And, desserts and candies from around the world? Yep, you'll find them there! You'll find those items and oh, so many more at Jungle Jims. *The only thing you won't find at Jungle Jims is a jungle gym for kids to play on. My youngest daughter was terribly disappointed by that fact, the first time I took her there. Sorry, kiddo, Jungle Jim is a man, the guy who started this whole empire many years ago, as a roadside produce stand in Fairfield, Ohio. It's come a long way, baby!
If you're ever in the Greater Cincinnati area, I suggest you visit Jungle Jims, where they sell nearly everything "food-wise," and "drink-wise," and cooking-wise" under the sun, plus A LOT MORE!
