In our climate in Malaysia, plants of all manner and form abound, from the massive raintrees scattered throughout the land, to the wispy ferns carpeting our jungles with their soft, intricate and gorgeous patterns.
There is another alternative to grounded plants to beautify your hearth and home ─ air plants!
They are so named as they require neither soil nor water to grow and flourish.
My first air plant, the Spanish moss, was given to me by a very kind lady, Noraini who had heaps growing throughout her well flourishing garden.
My second Spanish moss was bought from another friend, dear Mrs. Arun whose garden is teeming with flowers and fruit alike.
My third purchase, of the same plant (do you see a pattern here?), was the biggest one by far and I have named it affectionately, "the old bearded man", whose "beard" has grown even longer and greener since being rehomed with us.
Spanish moss, is not indigenous to Malaysia, but it has adapted very well to our climate. And because it is so easy to manage, they make great additions to your garden portfolio. They flourish well indoors or out.
They do require a daily watering, and for the indoor inhabitants, a good spritz goes a long way.
Since they are so fuss-free, easy to manage and a delight to the eye, investing in a few of the same type or even a variety makes for a good return of your investment.
