My morning news stated that Colorado has the lowest prices in the nation. I would have to agree with that. We travel both sides of the coast every year. I was suprised with the cost of living in the South. I feel in love with Tennesse. We are planning another trip to South for a week in the late Fall.
Frugality is not about being stingy or mean-spirited with your resources. You have to decided what is luxury spending vs necessary for YOUR FAMIlY. I am the firs tto admit that we live a lifestyle that most do not have because of bartering, side income, saving. and making things etc.
Cutting down feels less rigid for some people rather than cutting things out all together. You may need to reduce your streaming from 5 to 1. There are plenty of free options. The library offers dvds. The antenna we purchased gives us a lot of local channels. I have a dvr recorder for live television that I received as a product test.
I believe that making sure your children are well-cared is not a place to skimp. Buying quality foods that will impact their future health. Shoes that fit properly and have good support. Paying and providing for activies that nourish their minds, spirits, and bodies.
Teaching and spending time with your children is priceless. This morning our daughter got up and did her morning chores. Both kids didn't have chores for the next week because they finished school finals early. So, they are excused from chores for the week. One of the things that their online school often has asked, how are your kids always on schedule. It is a life skill to know what needs to be done and when to do it. If your schedule is clear on Tuesday, get on Wednesday's work. We have all seen people that have difficulty in managing their lives because they didn't learn time management skills. Time management is one of ouir greatest frugal tools. A schedule for bills, meals, projects, cleaning, repairs, I could on and on. A person with good time management skills will not be racking up late fees because they have a handle on their budget needs. If you struggle with time management, set reminders on your phone. If you struggle with chronic health issues you need to plan for those days of unwellness.
If you are a stay at home mom, keep your skills up by volunteering, taking a class or two. Keep some credit in your name. Things happen beyond divorce, losing your spouse to death, or if he becomes disabled.
Food waste is a pet peeve of mine. You wouldn't walk over to trash and throw 20 dollars in the trash. You literally do this when you waste the food you bring into your home and doesn't get eaten.
