The contributing factors of WHY the birthrate is on the, steady DECLINE in this country, even though, the DDP prided itself on making the strides to give women more rights, practically, it doesn't work, and these female physicians are handling more than their shares here, off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
The Physicians' Labor Laws aren't Up to Standards, Sixty Percent of Female Medical Professionals Were Asked for Their Plans of Getting Pregnant in the Interviews
The workplace in hospitals and clinics isn't fitting, not only were the nurses all overworked, the medical doctors are also, faced with the, bad labor conditions, especially the female medical professionals, being sexually discriminated against, the Taipei Physicians' Guild posted its latest gender-friendly survey results, close to seventy-percent of female physicians had been sexually harassed, but there's a very low rate of reporting, close to sixty-percent of female physicians were asked about their plans of getting pregnant at the interviews for hire, another thirty percent of female physicians were on duty in the graveyard shifts during their pregnancies. The guild called out, that there should be the medical labor laws, to protect the medical professionals' rights.
The secretary of the Taipei Physicians' Guild, Chen stated that the reduced birthrates is a matter of national security now, the government kept encouraging women to get pregnant, but the medical professions, due to the culture of work, placed a ton of restrictions, limitations on the female physicians; after the female physicians get pregnant, their work rights can't even match up to that of regular workers; the #MeToo started trending across Taiwan last year, and due to how the field of medicine is dominated by men mostly, the culture of work is too hush-hush, the victims of sexual harassment can't get the help they required, making the workplace even harsher.
The guild had surveyed a total of 185 female physicians and 97 male physicians. The results showed, 67.5-percent of surveyed female physicians had been sexually harassed, but the complaints filed was only at 3.2-percent; 22.7-percent of male physicians reported having been sexually harassed, with the rate of filing a complaint being ZERO, other than being too busy at work, they'd worried that the complaints don't do anything for them, that they can't collect enough evidence. The representative of the Taipei Physicians' Guild, Huang stated, there's only a limited number of the departments of nominations of physicians, plus how close the culture of work is in the medical field, causing the physicians to prioritize their own means of getting promoted higher up than to report the incidents.
There were close to sixty-percent of female physicians surveyed whom when asked about their plans of marriage, of childrearing in the job interviews, they were hinted by the managers that they can't get pregnant, or it would affect them getting hired and being, promoted; although the labor laws specified that pregnant women shall NOT work the night shifts, but, other than the resident doctors, the primary physicians aren't protected under this law, and there are still currently 27.3-percent of female physicians who are working the graveyard shifts right now.
Chen stated, that there's a ZERO job guarantee protection for female physicians who are pregnant right now, the government should immediately amend this, to strictly prohibit the female physicians who are pregnant from working the graveyard shifts.
And so, this is, a major, contributing FACTOR of what there's this, decline in birthrate in this country. The workplace isn't friendly enough toward women, and not just the doctors, and, there's this, SEX discrimination in this country that's, ongoing right now, and it's still, rooted down in the culture, and to root this bad belief back up, is going to take, more than just, amending the laws to protect women's right of work when they're pregnant.
