Memorial Day weekend use to signal the biggening of the summer blockbuster movie schedule. One of the best movie weekends of the year! But times have changed, and we are lucky to get one big film released now. But "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" is one of the two big movies I am especially looking forward to seeing this summer. So, it is an automatic watch at the local Dolby theater.
*The MEAT* The story is a prequel to the last movie "Fury Road" which is all about Furiosa's origin in the Mad Max universe. But I think it still takes place after the original three "Mad Max" films that starred Mel Gibson, it is never explained but there are plenty of clues to interpret. That said, "Furiosa" has more story than the usual "Mad Max" movie and it helps explain the last movie, "Fury Road" better and I found that satisfying.
*The PATATOES* The acting is mostly all Anya Taylor-Joy, and she fills the shoes of Charlize Theron's Furiosa quite well. I was never a big Taylor-Joy fan, but I will give her props here for her performance that was obviously physically demanding too. Chris Hemsworth is the main villain that does steal every scene he's in due to his *Outrageously Weird* performance that makes his character very memorable. And I thought Alyla Browne played a perfect, very young Furiosa, keep an eye out for her in future movies, I think she has that *It Factor* for acting.
*The VERDICT* For over 45 years, George Miller has been directing the "Mad Max" movie saga. WOW! That is crazy when you think about it. And he does, once again deliver on the crazy, outlandish vehicle action scenes which are a must and let's face it, the real reason we go to see his "Mad Max" films. Now, I will say that "Fury Road" had better action and overall mayhem than "Furiosa", but I cannot see any movie ever topping that one. So, if you like big machinery crashes, weird characters with awesome names and new ways to fight on speeding vehicles, "Furiosa" is a *Blast* and is awesome to experience in theaters. However, if that stuff doesn't interest you and you never really liked any "Mad Max" films anyway, then don't waste your money on this one.
