Due to the circumstances of how the younger brother didn't die in the suicide attempt he'd made with his own older brother, which his older brother didn't, survive…this is why there's this need for the law to allow for euthanasia, but there isn't, and so, people do this…off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
Another case of long-term care tragedy. A pair of brothers in Tainan, Changs, the older brother, is immobilized and can't work due to his illness, the younger brother became too strained from caring for him, they'd committed suicide together, and the neighbors found them, reported to the police, the older brother died, the younger didn't, and after he was saved, he was indicted on artificial sucidie; the Tainan District Court believed, that the younger brother had also attempted suicide, that this constitutes as artificial suicide, sentenced him to a year two months, and put on probation for three years, and during his probationary period, he was placed in protective custody.
countries that allows for euthanasia...map found online
The criminal law for artificial suicide stated that those who helped someone die, will get a sentence of anywhere from a year to seven years. Those who'd assisted suicide and made the suicide attempt themselves, are not charged by this.
The district attorney and the police investigated, that the brothers Chang rented a stay in Tainan, the older brother was immobilized due to his stroke, and didn't work, he was in the care of his own younger brother, the younger brother works as an operator at an electronic company, and makes $26,000N.T. per month, they weren't well economically. The older brother had been ill long-term, and had the thought of suicide for a long time, on February 3rd at around noon last year, he'd mentioned his younger brother, that he wanted to kill himself.
And the younger, due to looking after his older brother, feeling fatigued and tried, felt that there's no point in him living all alone, on the fourth of the same month, he'd, closed the door and windows in the living room, took the sleeping pills, then, burned the charcoal to kill himself alongside his own older brother, but, on the morn of the fifth, both had waken up, and in the evening, the younger brother helped his older brother to the bathrooms, where he'd burned the charcoal again, to try and commit suicide, until the early morning the following, the younger brother felt the pains of the burns of his left toe and left calf, he awakened, and ran outside, got found by the neighbor, the neighbor called emergency, rushed him to the hospital, the police entered into the residence, found that the older brother had already died in the bathrooms.
The Tainan Court found, that the brothers Chang had it hard due to the illness, and economics, lost their wills to survive; the younger brother due to burns on his lower extremities, had gotten amputated, and this predicament would cause anybody to feel sympathy for him, and not punish him hard.
Had the man walked away, without a scratch, then he would've been charged with murder, but, because the man was injured himself, while committing suicide with his own older brother, he only received probation. This still showed the dire need for that law that allows for euthanasia, because when you can get euthanized legally, you will, find other ways, out, and, the worst case scenario, the one who survives the suicide attempt, gets locked up in prison, getting that ten to twenty years, because s/he is the one who, survived!
