Not sure why it happens this way, but I always feel the laziest when there are a million items on my to-do list. Our family campout happens soon. I've accomplished a lot, but there's more to get done. I've already packed up Christmas gifts for the northern contingent, to send home with them (saving money on shipping, and guaranteeing that the gifts get there!) Today I'll be making the glycerin bubble solution and gathering the various bubble wands and makeshift wands. My best wand was actually a cover for a round, Corningware bowl. It had a clear, cellophane-type cover on the top. I just removed the celophane and "poof" it became a perfect wand for very big bubbles.
All of the special items I ordered have been delivered. I have a new tee-ball set, a new, inflatable pool (which has to be filled one bucket at a time from the old-fashioned well (i.e., how I keep my biceps from getting disgustingly saggy (I switch arms regularly!). And the water will be ice cold for the first swim session. I also bought some good quality water pistols, which will add to the fun and the cooling-off factor.
There will also be craft supplies galore, but this year, the grandkids have to call upon their own creative skills for what to make. Mimi is not planning anything in particular, but is willing to give supportive advice when needed. The kids will have access to glue, feathers, sticker, markers, tape, and a set of pastels (not to mention leaves and sicks and bird feathers and flowers). I can hardly wait to see what their imaginations dream up, and I'm sure Mimi will have a least one piece in the final art display!
My only worry is the extended forecast. It's going to be VERY hot and muggy. One summer, we had enough rain to splash in the creek, so maybe we'll get to do that again. But I also remember our crazy hot campout, where everyone was just sitting around whining about the heat. I was driving home at night to "take care of the cats," then conveniently spending the night sleeping at home in the AC.
This summer, I am determined to tough it out with everyone. That's why I chose a bigger pool for the kids, because I want to fit in there with them. I also had an inspiration to pick up a few water bottles from the "dollar 25" Tree. I can fill it with melting ice water from the coolers, and spray myself, which will cool me down for about 20 seconds a squirt.
Whatever happens, the campout will be a grand adventure, which we will remember fondly, and I will end up with more funny stories to tell. This is what family is all about, being together, and making memories that we can look back on with love and laughter, through the long, cold winter, and for the rest of our lives And, having all the grandchildren gathered together (with our 3 little saints in heaven smiling down on us and interceding for us will be so sweet. Those three little ones are always with me in my heart, and someday I will get to meet them in heaven! What a reunion that will be, with all of my family who has gone before me. And the temperature in heaven for that homecoming event will be absolutely perfect and unimaginably glorious in every possible way!
