#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! The top five is sponsored by All C's Collectibles free to attend Collectors Showcase September 6-8. DC takes the week off unless you're looking to get caught up with a few collected stories. Haven't seen it this light since they decided to pull back to just the trinity and a few other characters. Marvel looking like they're doing all of the heavy lifting this week as Blood Hunt is running strong across most titles and Hercules shows up in Immortal Thor. Not going to lie, really looking forward to that team up while Images offers up their own batch of Hard Cover collected stories with Lore Remastered looking to be one of the few regular Image releases. Still plenty to choose from as we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Saga #67> NEW STORY ARC
SAGA returns for its epic 12th season as 12-year-old Hazel embarks on the most important adventure of her young life. (S) Brian K. Vaughn (A) Fiona Staples
Smurfs Take> I can't believe it's been that long with this series; it's gone by in a blink. There's been so many things that have happened and no idea when it started that we would all age with the characters and applaud the vision Brian has had for this title. Ready for a new chapter, ready for a new season!
Ultimate Spider-Man #7> THE ULTIMATES RETURN! NEW ARC STARTS HERE! After their intense battle with the Kingpin, Green Goblin and Spider-Man both know they aren't as ready to reshape the world as they hoped. Harry and Peter get to work, while Ben and Jonah work on "the truth"… And problems for their resistance arise when the ULTIMATES return! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Marco Checchetto
Smurfs Take> It's no surprise to me this is the best of the Ultimates titles, it's how it was back in the day and holds true today. The reason its better? Not only is Hickman behind the wheel but starting at the ground floor with Spidey and still a fair amount of mystery has worked in his favor. The villains to choose from are endless sure, but being the family man, something we've always wanted to see for Pete I think gives us a deeper connection to the character.
Blood Hunt #5> Doctor Strange is presented with a dread bargain to gain a chance to save the world. The Avengers ride into a battle they cannot win. The dead battle the undead across the globe. Will it be enough? Will the world be saved, and how will it be changed if it is? Featuring a dramatic shift for the future of the Marvel Universe! (S) Jed Mackay (A) Pepe Larraz
Smurfs Take> It's been a very long time for me that I've enjoyed a Marvel summer event this much. Marvel usually loses control about halfway through and ends rather flat or just outright broken. At the moment I'm optimistic this is going to end with one large bang as we see our way to the final issue. I don't think Marvel was looking to do another reset but there could be a few more sharp turns ahead.
Darth Maul- Black, White, & Red #4> WHERE IS THE DARKEST SIDE OF THE FORCE? An assassin in the shadows. A forgotten temple. A quest for silence. Why does PALPATINE send DARTH MAUL to an ancient world? And who pays the price...for patience? (S) Greg Pak (A) Luca Pizzari
Smurfs Take> Great stories! Perfect fit in the Star Wars universe that I could absolutely see as a series on D+. It wasn't till later that I developed an appreciation for Maul and this series has made me more of a fan anxious to see how much of the Palpatine relationship is explored. Loving the Darkside!
Sam and Twitch Case Files #5> The case takes a decidedly dark turn for the detectives, but a new lead brings them one step closer. (S) Todd McFarlane (A) Mirko Colak
Smurfs Take> I don't think I have ever considered the Toddfathers skill as a writer. I do think that over the years his skills have improved, that or he's got someone ghostwriting for him because this has been a good read so far. Maybe a little light on the pages but the art, story, and most of all the characters have kept me locked in and wanting more. I always liked Sam and Twitch, even from the early days of the Spawn title and these two have shined in this spotlight exceeding the bit parts they had starting out.
