Happy Monday! I like Mondays, so this is a good time to share about making a new (old) beginning. Last week, I wrote to you about using what I already had to make a quilt. I showed you hexagon shaped blocks that are part of the ones needed for a Radiant Star Quilt.
I debated (strongly) with myself about whether I should repurpose the remaining fabrics and finish the quilt smaller than planned. The reasoning behind this thought was that I've been working on this quilt off and on for five years. If I'm honest, though, it's been in fits and starts. I haven't dedicated time to this particular quilt, choosing to think of it as my "travel" project.
I chose the other route, to focus on the quilt and get the top finished. I will probably hand quilt this beauty, keeping the softness of the quilt intact, since it will be entirely hand pieced and all liberty. I haven't chosen a backing, batting, or binding, but I have time to ponder those choices!
For those of you who are newer to the blog, I bought a block of the month through Alice Caroline Fabrics in 2019. The whole kit was a gift, and the boxes started arriving early 2019. I quickly realized I was not going to be able to keep up with the pace of the boxes coming in. After about the third box, I started numbering them and slowed my pace down to work on them only when I was at a handwork meeting or traveling. There were two large blocks per parcel, so almost a third of the large blocks got finished before I set it aside.
I'm leaning strongly towards one quilt at a time again. I was once a "one project" quilter. The past few years have been filled with finishing quilts and truncating projects to be smaller than originally planned. My aim is to finish my unfinished projects to get back to one at a time. I found that I had five large, tedious, handwork projects going at once, and it stifled my creativity.
I'm happy to say that this block will bring my total to 14 full blocks and two half blocks. That's just over halfway!!! The full blocks take me a while to prepare and sew up, but I'm sewing much faster by having good lighting, using a thimble, and after practicing hand quilting. I'm also very happy to have a project I can share about online again!
If you're looking for this pattern or a block of the month, Alice Caroline Fabrics in the UK has rebranded and renamed this pattern. It's being offered as a current bom, although I believe you can order just the pattern. They really were lovely to work with!
I pray that you find motivation to do things that are on your long-term list, and that you are well and healthy during these unprecedented times. I pray that you have time to do things you enjoy, along with things that need to be done. I pray that your creative time takes you to the Creator Himself!
