Miss Cleo: Her Rise and Fall - Review
Youree runs lines before her sold-out performance at a community center. She leaves rehearsals early after a script disagreement, and the director, Carl, runs after her. Carl says the staff isn't happy to get paid after the show's first week. Everyone knows she got a grant, and they want her to pay them now. Youree won't budge and drives home. She arrives and discovers her girlfriend abused her daughter, Crystal. Youree leaves with her daughters and the theater's grant money. Youree writes each cast member an IOU that she won't pay. Carl reports the crime to the police, but the detective warns Carl the lawsuit will cost more than the grant.
Youree arrives in Fort Lauderdale with her daughters, Crystal and Lena. She looks at the newspaper for jobs and finds one for the Psychic Readers Network. The floor manager tells Youree to log in every morning, keep her numbers up, make people stay on the lines, and stick to the script. Then, the manager hands Youree a document and tells her to sign it. It states that Youree is a psychic. She signs and gets on the phone. Youree doesn't take the job seriously until her daughter Crystal wants to try out for cheerleading. Youree returns to work. The floor manager scoffs at Youree because her numbers are down. Youree goes off script, fakes a Jamaican accent, brings tarot cards to work, and calls herself Miss Cleo. She becomes Fort Lauderdale's #1 phone psychic.
Peter enters a frustrated Steven's office. Steven warns his cousin to handle their legal issues without their expensive lawyer. Their telecommunications company dwindles, and Steven needs help. Peter gives Steven the Fort Lauderdale numbers and delightfully says they are from one operator. Peter tells Steven to arrange a meeting with Youree.
Peter and Steven meet with Youree. They ask her to become a spokesperson for the network. Viewers don't trust celebrity endorsements and urn for something authentic. Steven admits he's listened to all of Youree's calls. He likes her style but wants to change Miss Cleo's backstory. Youree agrees to become the face of the network after dinner. For Youree, this is another acting job. However, she's joined a billion-dollar scam.
First, The Lady of Rage pulls an award-winning performance in this movie. Next, the writers ensured they didn't make Miss Cleo a hero. She was a scammer who escaped her deeds. However, Peter and Steven have a country-wide scam that negatively affects and threatens their customers. Viewers should listen closely during Youree's first meeting with Peter and Steven. Steven uses many words to say they are collecting and selling customer information without their knowledge. Youree enjoys being a spokesperson as she gains fame with talk show appearances and late-night comedy sketches. Her infomercials became legendary. During her fall, Youree's status makes her the face of the scam and, falsely, the mastermind. The callers didn't know about Peter and Steven. They know Miss Cleo and sue her. Some viewers may consider this unfair, while others say it's karma. This conclusion leaves that decision to the audience. So, watch and judge for yourself.

Stepmom from Hell - Review
Izzy returns home to pitch her app, Trusting Paws, to investors. However, they don't want to invest after they discover her father, Jack, isn't behind it. Izzy travels to Jack's home for a party. Jack is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his company. As Izzy and Jack converse, Jack notices Izzy's stepsister, Dana, walk past. Jack asks Izzy to be kind to Dana because Dana has helped with the business since Izzy's been away. Jack stands on the steps to give a speech to his dedicated workers. However, he forgets who they are halfway through. This incident worries Izzy because her grandmother had dementia.
Izzy finds Dana, who stresses about business. Dana informs Izzy that Jack hasn't kept up with the expansion. Izzy is happy Jack has Catherine, but Dana speaks poorly about her mother. Jack sits down, and Dana tries to talk about the issues. However, Jack cuts her off and tells Dana to give the problems to his secretary, Terry. Dana grabs her things and angrily leaves the room. Jack tells Izzy he wants her to take over the business while she gets her app off the ground. Izzy relents.
Izzy enters the office on Sunday to look around. Days earlier, someone broke in and rummaged through the files but didn't steal anything. Izzy's ex-boyfriend, Detective Brian, is assisting with the case. Izzy looks through the file room and sees a bank statement for $700,000. Someone transferred the money from Jack's business account to the Credence Account. Izzy folds the paper and puts it in her purse. Later, Izzy spots Terry shredding documents on the business's day off. She questions Terry, and Dana answers. Dana warns Izzy to back off and leave them to handle things. Izzy exits but promises to return.
Izzy visits his father and finds him on the bathroom floor with blood on his head. She begs Catherine to call 911, but Catherine calls Dr. Jeffery. Dr. Jeffery examines Jack and prescribes medication. Izzy pulls Dr. Jeffery aside and alerts him about Jack's memory loss. Dr. Jeffery tells Izzy to bring Jack into his office immediately.
Dr. Jeffery asks Jack questions and believes Jack has the early signs of dementia. Then, Catherine barges into the room and threatens Dr. Jeffery and Izzy. She pulls Jack out of the doctor's office. When Izzy tries to see her father again, Catherine serves Izzy with a restraining order. Izzy won't back down because Dana and Catherine are trying to take her father and his company. Can she prove it before they take it all?
This movie is a slow burn with strange backing tracks and bad lighting. Viewers will wonder why Dana and Izzy didn't have a heartfelt conversation about the business and Jack's health. They could resolve their issues in 15 minutes. However, neither had enough proof, so they kept everything to themselves and argued. As the title states, Catherine is the perfect villain. She is loving, charming, and fun when you meet her. But Dana warns Izzy that Catherine has a dark side. She is pure evil. Her monologue blares with narcissism and contempt. This film seems slow. However, the last 30 minutes will thrill you if you stick it out.

The Neighbor Who Saw Too Much - Review
Hayley moves into the new home of her sister, Diane, after their mother's death. Hayley isn't happy to leave her friends and school behind. Diane greets their neighbor, Jason while loading boxes into the house. Diane and Jason have a flirty conversation while Hayley rolls her eyes. Hayley FaceTimes her friend, Chrissy, and complains about her new room. During the call, Chrissy asks for a closer look at the handsome new neighbor, and Hayley obliges with a grunt.
Flight attendant Diane informs teen Hayley that she has a Tokyo flight. So Hayley will be home alone for two nights. Diane makes Hayley promise to stay out of trouble and do homework. Hayley throws a raging party with underage drinking. The neighbors call the police, and the police arrest Hayley. Diane returns home for a meeting with their social worker. The social worker warns Diane that she could lose custody of Hayley if this happens again. Diane takes a demotion to domestic travel to spend more time at home.
Chrissy spends the night. She and Hayley notice Jason bring a woman home, and they watch him from Hayley's window. Later, Hayley sees a woman screaming for her life while someone attacks her. Hayley tells Diane in the morning, but Diane doesn't believe her. Then, Hayley hears a news report about a missing woman named Layla. Hayley believes Layla is the woman she saw entering Jason's home. Hayley thinks Jason is a killer. Now, she has to prove it.
It won't take long for Lifetimers to despise Hayley. She is a bratty teen who causes Diane's demotion, jeopardizes Chrissy's life, and endangers herself numerous times. Hayley never regrets her actions and makes everything worse. It's difficult to cheer for an annoying and childish protagonist. This film is the equivalent of rage bait. Viewers should watch only to cheer for Jason.
I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars
I'm not all over the place. Our mom just died - Hayley

You'll make it work - Diane

Junebug - Review
Junebug - Hallmark - 2 hours and 0 minutes
Book editor Juniper walks into Aurora Roasters and requests coffee. She sips and realizes she got the wrong one. Juniper signals the man, artist Alex, before her and informs him that he got her coffee. The barista, Mikah, apologizes, exchanges coffee, and offers to make Alex a new cup. Juniper leaves for work. Juniper's boss, Paula, wants them to watch for new illustrators and authors for their children's books.
Juniper's parents come to her home and give Juniper her wish box. She put her wishes in a box when she was eight years old. Her parents used it as a time capsule. Juniper's 40th birthday is coming soon, and they think the box will help her because Juniper doesn't smile anymore. Juniper takes the box and puts it aside.
Juniper meets her boyfriend, Ethan, for dinner and realizes they are in a rut. Juniper ends the date early and has wine with her best friend, Kate. Kate gives Juniper encouraging words before Juniper goes to bed. After Kate leaves, Juniper sits on her bed and opens the wish box. Inside, Juniper has three wishes. She wanted everyone in her kingdom to be happy, to make her dreams come true, and to meet a knight. Juniper believes she has achieved one of those dreams and goes to sleep. She walks up to find an 8-year-old girl in her bed and screams. The girl screams in kind. The girl says her name is Junebug. Juniper realizes Junebug is her. Junebug believes she's there to help Juniper through a crisis. Juniper tells Junebug to leave, and surprisingly, Junebug does.
Juniper wakes and assumes she dreamt of Junebug until Junebug disapproves of her clothes. Juniper walks to the coffee shop with Junebug following. Junebug won't leave until Juniper accomplishes her 8-year-old dreams. She wants Juniper to become a writer and find a knight while keeping her family and friends happy.
This movie perfectly handles reconnecting to your childhood. Juniper discovers her fears hold her back. She must be brave and stand up for herself. It just takes a tiny nudge, scream, and threat from Junebug. Junebug believed everything was possible with a single wish. However, Juniper became an organized adult. She drinks, eats, and does the same thing daily. Juniper finds happiness with a few scary but life-affirming decisions. This film is a delightful twist to the Hallmark formula that will make you smile and cheer. Enjoy this lighthearted and lovable romantic comedy.
