I want to talk about more than just how food impacts our health—it's about understanding the broader effects of what we consume in general. Often, we don't pay close attention to what we're eating, but over time, our food choices can start to take a toll on us. Let's take a moment to further discuss: "What you eat matters."
When you think about the variety of foods you consume in a day, you might consider how they affect your overall health. There are times when you believe you're following a healthy, balanced diet, only to discover that it lacks the necessary nutrients for proper nutrition. Over time, you may realize that some of your food habits haven't been the best. Perhaps you don't feel as good as you'd like, or maybe your doctor has raised concerns about your health.
Learning to pay attention to what you eat matters. However, this extends beyond just the food you eat each day. Consider what else you are consuming—mentally, socially, emotionally, and relationally. These things are just as significant as your diet. We are, in a sense, 'what we eat' in every aspect of our lives.
To maintain good health, you might decide to cut back on junk food, become more mindful of your daily calorie intake, and strive for a healthier lifestyle overall. These are crucial steps towards a better path. Maybe you've downloaded apps to help you stay accountable, joined clubs, or even hired a coach or trainer. No matter what, you're on your way to a healthier version of yourself. But I can't stress enough the importance of considering what else you're consuming.
It's vital to also reflect on what you're constantly meditating on. What have you allowed yourself to consume emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and relationally? These aspects matter just as much as choosing to eat a healthier diet. If we know we need to cut out certain foods that harm our physical health, how much more should we consider the other things we're consuming that could be impacting us negatively?
Having the right people in our lives is crucial when it comes to paying attention to what we eat. We need individuals who love us enough to point out when we're heading down the wrong path or making poor choices.
Having the right people in our lives is crucial when it comes to paying attention to what we eat. We need individuals who love us enough to point out when we're heading down the wrong path or making poor choices. Sometimes, we seek out people who always agree with us and react poorly when we're told otherwise. Accountability is key to maintaining a healthy life. The wrong community can lead us down paths we never intended to take, which is why it's so important to pay attention to what we consume—not just physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Tell me about your experiences. Are you working on paying attention to what you eat? Have you made changes to your diet? Are you also focusing on how these changes affect you not only physically but also mentally, emotionally, socially, relationally, and spiritually?
Don't let anyone or anything make you believe you are stuck.
There is always another way.
Keep pressing on and find it.
