My Old Ass - Budget Unknown - 1 hour and 29 minutes
Elliott ignores calls from her family on her 18th birthday because she decided to go camping with her friends, Ruthie & Ro. She can't wait to leave her family's cranberry farm and attend the University of Toronto. She wants a new start in an exciting life. Ro got some mushrooms. They take them in the woods and wait for them to take effect. Elliott watches her friends hallucinate and assumes the drugs haven't worked until an unknown woman sits next to her and starts making s'mores. Elliott screams and demands to know the woman's name. She introduces herself as 39-year-old Elliott. Younger Elliott doesn't believe it until older Elliott provides undeniable proof. Young Elliott asks about her life in the future, but elder Elliott won't give her answers for fear that things will change. Elder Elliott tells her younger self they are on the PH.D track and to stay away from anyone named Chad. After younger Elliott falls asleep, elder Elliott grabs her younger's phone and enters her phone number.
Younger Elliott wakes and envies her friends' drug-fueled trips. She has a disconnected conversation with her mother, Mrs. Labrant, and ignores her brothers, Max and Spencer. Elliott visits her girlfriend before skinny-dipping in a lake. She floats in the water until a guy jumps out. He greets her and says his name is Chad. Elliott freaks out, says she's Ray Romano, and leaves. She looks through her phone and finds a contract labeled 'My Old Ass' and texts it about meeting Chad. The number responds 'Get out now, Ray.' Younger Elliott throws her phone in the lake. After it dries, she calls the number and her older self answers. Her elder reminds Elliott to be nice to her brothers, spend time with her mom, and stay away from Chad. She can do two of them, but they all lead to love, change, and acceptance.
Elliott is in the phase of her life where she is young and dumb. She doesn't see the beauty in the world around her because she is too busy looking ahead. Her older self reminds her to spend time with her loved ones, enjoy the lake, and moisturize. Soon, Elliott's only confidant is herself. She questions her family, sexual orientation, and legacy. Elliott learns the peace of saying goodbye and accepting change. She tries to learn from her older self but teaches her elder self the beauty of youth. Being young and dumb isn't bad if you do it with the right people to guide you. This movie is a beautiful piece that you won't want to buy. But you will re-watch it when it's on streaming.
