I sit in my crowded little room

I take a deep breathe

I run through my lines in my mind

I practice my smile in the dingy mirror

I ready myself for the crowd

I step out into the the light of the world

I give them what they came for

I watch them leave without turning back

I return to my crowded little room

I gaze into my dingy mirror

I watch the charade melt away

I wipe the smile off with a napkin

I see what's underneath

I take a deep breath
