Alexis was over the moon to be married to her best friend. It seemed like a dream come true. Brian was tall, handsome, and oh so charming. He had a slight limp from a childhood injury, but Alexis found it cute. Brian was the first man that she could really trust. He was everything she could have asked for and more. After the ceremony, they went back to their new apartment. They weren't scheduled to leave for their honeymoon until the next day. Alexis looked around at the new place that would be their home and smiled. She imagined how she would decorate, inviting people over for the holidays, and even a little kid running up and down the stairs.

The next day they headed on their honeymoon, which was a surprise to Alexis. She wiggled in her seat with anticipation as they drove north. Her smile faded as they pulled into his hometown. He explained how he wanted to introduce Alexis to his family and friends. Alexis just smiled and nodded, not expressing her disappointment. It was safe to say she expected more than a trip to his hometown. Alexis thought of all the possible excuses for why it was okay. Brian was a businessman and was always gone, so he probably could not go anywhere super far. But Brian would just take the time to get off for them to go somewhere, right? I mean, that's what he did for the past few days. No, that couldn't be it. He had paid for most of the wedding, so maybe he was short on money for a trip. That could be possible.

They pulled into a driveway, and out came Brian's dad and his stepmom. They pulled him into a group hug and smiled broadly, their eyes crinkling at the corners. She smiled as she hugged his parents. I watched as Brian walked over to us with the bags in tow. Yup. It had to be the second one.

Alexis tried not to be disappointed. She really did. However, his parents' hometown wasn't exactly a tourist destination. It was a small rural town with only a few shops and attractions. She could even hear cows mooing in the distance. He showed her around and even introduced her to some of his friends. But after a while, she did not even want to leave the house. By that point, she had seen the whole town.

"I'll just hang out with your stepmom for a while. You go hang out with your friend."

"Are you sure?" he asked, looking deep into her eyes.

"Yes." He gave her a quick kiss and left. Alexis spent the afternoon with his stepmom, Ally, baking and watching movies. Alexis felt guilty for secretly wishing that Ally was really Brian's mom instead of Lily. Ally wasn't like Lily at all and treated Alexis like a daughter. But after a few hours went by, Alexis began to worry about Brian. He said he wouldn't be long, so where was he?

"Uh, babe? Are you on your way back?" She asked him over the phone.

"Sorry, I lost track of time. I'm getting in my car now." Alexis heard the rev of an engine in the background.

"I love you," Brian said. He repeated it a few more times before he paused for a response.

"I love you too," Alexis laughed. How weird.

A few months passed, and Alexis continued to be blissfully happy. They went on picnics, to the movies, and long romantic walks on the beach. The past couple of months had been the stuff of movies. That's why when Alexis had a dream that Brian was cheating on her, she was in shock.

This is Brian we are talking about here, she thought to herself. He has only been a sweetheart since we met. It can't possibly be true.

But then she had the same dream for the following two nights. Alexis recalled something about dreams coming in multiples meaning they were true. The thought of her dreams ate at her for a few days before she finally caved. She had to know if it was true.

The following night when Alexis woke up, she grabbed his phone and went into the bathroom. She had on the toilet, and she scrolled through his messages. There was a recent one from someone she didn't know. She clicked on her name and scrolled. She read everything.
