Happy Sunday. I pray you had a blessed week and I'm so thankful you're stopping by today on this second Sunday of Advent. If you have been following along with the advent guide than you've read passages from Genesis, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Luke. 

We've been reminded through God's Word that Jesus is the Word and light of the world. He is the way, the truth and the life. He was with God in the beginning and is fully God and fully man. We have read about Zechariah and Elizabeth and their son, John, who would one day prepare the way for the Lord.

Something we focused on this week is what righteousness means. In the Old Testament we are told of men and women who were called righteous in the sight of the Lord. We explained to our boys that it was their faith that was counted as righteousness. It was their faith that God would fulfill his promises and that He would save them from their sin problem. They didn't have a full picture, they didn't have the cross to look back on, but their faith was in God. Just as our faith in Christ as our Savior is counted as righteousness. It is not our attempts at goodness or good deeds; but rather it is all Christ. Believers in the Old Testament believed and trusted that God would do what He said He would do just as we do today. 

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. - Hebrews 1:1-2

so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28 

As a family we also listened to a message from John MacArthur called A Son To Redeem My Sons.

Another thing I personally pondered  this week was from my own devotional from Sinclair Ferguson. The Dawn of Redeeming Grace. 

In this first week he spoke on the genealogy of Jesus found in Matthew. We are often prone to just skip over the genealogies. Often times it's name after name many that we can't even pronounce. However, there is so much to be thankful for within these genealogies. For one it shows us the fulfillment of promise and prophesy. It shows us that Christ is the promised King from the line of David, and the seed of Abraham, and if you notice the genealogy mentions jews and gentiles, specifically several gentile women. One thing that Matthew is showing us through this genealogy is that Christ is the King and Savior for all people.

This is the best news, may we worship Him today and every day for all He has done, for saving us from our sins. We who were once children of wrath now redeemed and made children of God.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28

God has had a beautiful plan from the very beginning and it is amazing that we get to see through His Word some of His plan, and may it encourage us as we trust in Him.

Dear one, God has a plan and it is good, He is never caught off guard or caught by surprise and praise Him for that!
