On this calm Friday afternoon, Namjoon decided to take a break from writing and to focus on reading for a while. The other BTS members have been quiet all day, so nothing stood in the way of enjoying that new novel Namjoon wanted to read for quite some time. Smiling, he places a cup of tea on the living room table, grabs a blanket from a shelf and sits down on the couch, which is usually never unoccupied. However, as soon as he found a comfortable position under the cozy blanket, Yoongi calls him.

"Hey, Joon! Come to the studio! We got a surprise for you!"

'Yoongi preparing a surprise? In the studio?' Namjoon ponders as he reluctantly gets up. 'Nothing good can come from that...'

When Namjoon enters the studio, he flinches at what his friends have done to the room. The studio's walls, windows and furniture are covered in cables. At second glance, he notices the tiny, colorful lights attached to them.

"Are those… fairy lights?"

"It took the whole day to set them up, but these lights will inspire you for sure," Yoongi explains and could not hide a proud smirk. He nods at Hoseok, who stands in the corner of the room, right next to a man-sized tower of multiple sockets. "Hobi, at the count of 'three' switch on the outlets. One… two… three!"

A beautiful ocean of colorful lights brightens up the room for a total of three seconds, until it dies—along with all other electricity in the apartment. As soon as the boys are swallowed by the darkness, unforeseen chaos breaks out.

"The light switch doesn't work," Taehyung shrieks, not realizing that Yoongi, who is standing right next to him jolts from the noise, and bumps into Seokjin, who falls to the floor.

"Nothing works!" Jimin corrects Taehyung and stumbles over the same chair for the third time.

After tripping over cables and hitting his head on a shelf, Namjoon reaches for his smartphone, switches on the flashlight and accusingly holds it into Yoongi's face. "Yoongi? How many fairy lights did you use?"

"What's the problem?" Yoongi raises his hands to protect his eyes from the bright light. "Don't tell me 243 sets of fairy lights are too much."

Minutes pass, but the electricity does not come back. A quick glance to the window tells the boys that they are not the only ones sitting in the dark. Meanwhile, Jimin and Hoseok have left the room to look for flashlights or something else to fight the darkness.

"I tune to the local news station," Jungkook takes out his smartphone, sacrificing the tiny amount of credit balance left for this month. "Maybe they know what's going on."

The boys gather around the device in Jungkook's hands to listen to the newscaster's tinny voice. "—are currently without electricity. The reason is a surge in the electric supply network probably due to excessive power consumption in a household in—"

"What? But we live in that district!" Seokjin rubs his face with both hands. "And I bet we're the household with excessive power consumption!"

Taehyung sighs in response and slumps into his chair. "It feels terrible to be responsible for a blackout. I hope we don't have to go to jail or something. Joon, you should write a few verses before we get arrested."

"Actually, I wanted to read today," Namjoon explains. "But I guess now I can't do either. How am I supposed to read or write in pitch-black darkness?"

"Don't worry. I'm sure, Jimin and Hobi are taking care of this."

As if on cue, said boys return to the studio, carrying an incredible amount of candles.

"I hope you're happy now!" Seokjin snorts. "That's my whole supply of candles!"

"Why do you even own so many candles, Jin?" Jimin asks as he carefully distributes the waxen cylinders onto the floor.

"I don't wanna know," Hoseok admits, imitating Jimin's actions.

Everyone helps by lighting up the candles and putting them onto and around Namjoon's desk, and within a few minutes the whole room is lit up in warm candlelight.

"How medieval," Jimin giggles. "Do you want quill and ink, Joon?"

"I want electricity to work again!"

"Oh, come on," Hobi tries to cheer up his friend. "Writing in candlelight has something to it, right?"

"Yeah, somehow it does," Namjoon nods at the warm flames with a smile, before turning and facing his friends again. "And now… leave! I think I got an idea for a verse!"

"Awesome!" Jungkook cheers. "Can we do something else for you, hyung?"

"Yes. Promise me next time you decide to put up Christmas lights YOU'LL TAKE BATTERY-POWERED ONES!"
