Mompowerment Thoughts

Hi read,

How are you this week? Summer is starting soon or might have already started and that is often a tough transition time (at least that's the case in our house). I get mixed emotions like joy from not having to pack lunches each day and dread about a new routine.

This year you may have a heavy heart on top of any burnout you're already feeling. It's a lot to process right now, especially after two years of a pandemic that impacted working mothers really hard. I've got 3 tips to help you focus on you and your needs.

Give yourself space to feel all the feels. We each have different situations and reactions. It's easy to say that you should hold your kids tight and be thankful. It's hard to focus only on the positive aspects of your life right now, though. Instead of trying to focus only on happy thoughts, give yourself space and time to feel all the feels. Allow yourself to feel sad, frustrated, angry, grateful, happy, etc. And then take a moment to find the things that do give you hope and allow you to feel joy.

Don't doom scroll. Limit your time on news websites. Maybe even set a timer to help you manage your time on news stories or social media. That way to feel informed, but you avoid doom scrolling.

Focus on what you can control. Consider managing your time online as one way of controlling your situation or reaction to the situation. See where you can find moments of gratitude. Be present as you spend time with family and engage with colleagues or employees. Give yourself permission to slow down and step away from things like news and social media without having to explain to others why. Consider what actions you'll take such as reaching out to your government officials.

Bonus tip. Don' forget about your needs. Self-care matters. Consider the ways you can manage stress. And don't forget the power of a hug (the 20-second kind where your heart feels better).

A final note…this advice does not replace finding professional help. If your feelings are interfering with your life, please seek out a mental health professional.

So, what is helping you in these challenging times? How are you making sure you keep moving forward and taking care of yourself?

Be well,
Suzanne
