Being 4'11" I know something about being petite! Also, growing up in beauty pageants and then later in life getting involved in various activities formal wear is a BIG part of my life. As I've mentioned before being petite does have it's challenges. My first recommendation to ANYONE, not just a petite woman, find an AMAZING tailor. If you live in the DFW area the tailor that I've gone to for YEARS is K&C Tailor in Southlake, Texas. She's always busy so you can't take something to her a few days before you need it. No matter what she needs one week for alterations, but she's worth it!
Due to our social schedule I'm ALWAYS looking at evening gowns. So I feel pretty confident in saying that I know what's going on at most stores. I've even been known to snag a couple of dresses during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Neiman Marcus Last Call. The largest dress that I've bought was a size 14, again I'm telling you that I have the most AMAZING seamstress, she altered it perfectly and you'd never know the difference!
I've looked at Mac Duggal gowns for years at Neiman Marcus and NewYorkDress.com. The reason I've always shied away from Neiman's is because we live in Dallas, Texas. It's the birthplace of the store. If you're a REAL Dallasite (not a transplant) the downtown store is your equivalent of Tiffany's to Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Seriously, if you know you know! Which means everyone in their brother is shopping there and buying their dress there. Since I don't want to have the same dress as someone else, gasp, I've bought my dresses online for years.
I don't know why but I've NEVER thought to look up their website until just now. There are so many dresses that I've NEVER seen before and I'm in heaven! Every year we attend four guaranteed white tie to black tie events. If we're invited to any deb balls I typically wear something that I already have. Now when we get invited to Rex, which is in New Orleans, it's the King of Mardi Gras's Ball (picture above), that's a whole different level of evening gown. I typically also will get a new black cocktail dress to throw in the mix. So every year I purchase quite a few evening gowns!
The reason that I LOVE Mac Duggal is because they're conservative but still have a youthful flair without making me feel like I'm seventy years old.
Most of Mac Duggal's dresses come in a size zero (which I love) but they sell out incredibly fast. So if you see something you like I suggest ordering it ASAP! I could've picked out so many more dresses than the ones I put below but some of the dresses that I wanted to show you just didn't have very many sizes left, so I felt like it was a waste. However, with that being said go to their website a take a look for yourself. You may see a dress that SCREAMS at you and you can do what I did and have it cut down.
Hi, I'm Kelly. Previously an interior decorator, I became a full-time mother and blogger in 2020. When I'm not spending time with my wonderful family in Dallas, Texas, I love writing and creating recipes that are gluten free, sugar free, and low carb. I had so many questions when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and Diabetes. I knew that I couldn't be the only one out there that felt this way! Which is why I created …w/ Kelly, to share all of my discoveries with you. From the good to the bad. I hope you enjoy and that my experiences help you to not feel so overwhelmed like I did.
