Hi read, How are you today? Summer is winding down. Is it only me or did this summer fly by? It's been a long 2+ years. Many working moms have been working double duty with taking on more at home while still meeting deadlines at work. Let's take a pause and acknowledge all this work you've done as a working mama during the pandemic. Most moms I know fall into two camps. You're either counting down to the start of school (who's with me?!) or you're dreading school starting again. My boys love school. My older son is thrilled to start middle school, and my younger son can't wait to be one of the big kids on his elementary school campus. Here's the thing. Regardless of which camp you're in, you still need a good morning routine for the school year. Your morning routine set you up for success instead of becoming a hurdle you must overcome each weekday. Whether school has already started or starts in a few days or weeks, this is a great time to make some changes so you find your rhythm each day. Why now? The start of school is a great time to make big changes. Don't wait until a new calendar year begins. I've got a whole blog to help you create a morning routine and I'm sharing 5 tips to get you started here: - Use the night before. Having a morning routine starts the night before with planning your day and getting bags/backpacks, clothes, etc. ready.
- Consider what you want from your morning. Want to have a few sips of your coffee while it's quiet? Do it! Want to move your body? Yep, you can do that! Have a moment for meditation to feel more grounded. Whatever it is, you can find time – even a few minutes – to include it in your morning routine.
- Create formulas and habits. You want your morning routine to work out of habit. For example, consistently do things in an order. And a good place to create a formula is for kids' lunches.
- See if you can fit in a small moment of self-care. Small, consistent self-care moments can really make a difference for working moms. See what self-care moments you can include that fill your cup. It's part of starting the day on your terms.
- Give yourself some grace. You're not going to change everything overnight. Give yourself some wiggle room to see what works and to find your groove. Reward yourself over time to become more consistent.
Have a morning routine that you need to retool? Check out my blog on improving an existing routine. What changes will you make? How can I help? Don't need to make any changes because your morning routine is smooth sailing? I'd love to hear what tips you share with your friends who might be struggling. Looking forward to hearing about your morning routine, Suzanne PS Another thing that helps with your routine is already having things labeled. Check out my favorite personalized stick on labels from Mabel's Labels so that your child isn't losing items and contributing to the school's lost & found. (affinity link) |
