You've seen a rubber band, right? It can be stretched and become long; if you release it, it will be much shorter. To me, the rubber band is a metaphor for time. How you experience time can be short or long, depending on your perspective. I try to explain that to the children when they are in the "I'm bored" loop and constantly ask about the time.
"The more you think about the time, the longer it seems." But what exactly is time? Is time a dimension?Imagine waking up out in the universe. There you would have no idea what is up, down, left or right, or what time it is. The orientation would be different back on earth. Time on the micro level, life on earth, is not the same as on the macro level, out there in the universe. Here on Earth, we relate to it linearly. We talk about the past, present or future, but on the quantum level, time operates differently. I understand that even the most intelligent people can't explain the time.
"Time is the most unknown of unknown things," said Aristotles in his time, and according to Albert Einstein "Time is just something we invented to make motion seem simple." Whatever time is, we humans have a limited time on earth. Looking back on my own journey up to now, there is a duality attached to it. Sometimes I feel that I have lived several lives in this life. Life has gone fast, but at the same time, it has been tedious at times. That makes the feeling of the whole journey both short and long at the same time.
I hope you enjoy my photo safari from my different trips with my son. My birthday presents to him have been trips to various destinations. This year, his 22-year birthday gift is a trip to Seville with me.
My present to myself
August 21 is my birthday. Another year around the sun. My age and the concept of time gives life a new perspective and makes my views clearer.
- How should life be lived?
- What is important?
- What gives life meaning?
I will soon embark on a pilgrimage with a clear intention. It's my 51st birthday present to myself. My 50th birthday present was a trip to Peru. On my birthday, I walked up to Wayna Picchu, the young mountain near Machu Picchu. This year I will go to Spain. What started as an idea soon became a reality, and to be honest, I'm starting to get cold feet. Will my legs carry me the 700 km from Lisboa to Santiago de Compostela?
The answer lies in the near future, but until then, I will write a note to myself—a reminder that I will take out and read whenever my body and bones resist and want to give up.
"One step at a time," I got the inspiration for that note from the podcast "The Camino Cafe". " Just like life in general. It's about taking one step at a time. We cannot do more.
