#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Horror in abundance as DC hit's hard with the Knight of Terror line and all the titles in the middle of some fantastic stories. Marvel deals with the end of the X-Men again while Image offers up some solid choices. But don't take my word for it, here's the top five must read along with Smurfs take on the issue. Sponsored by the All C's Fan Expo November 10th-12th that's free to attend and has the King of Zombies as a special guest, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Guardians of the Galaxy #5> The mystery behind Grootfall is revealed. How will this forever change the course of the Guardians? Find out here. PLUS: A bonus page written by Jonathan Hickman - WHO ARE THE G.O.D.S.? (S) Jason Lanzing, Jonathan Hickman, Collin Kelly (A) Kev Walker
Smurfs Take> The Guardians I know and love with a little fun twist thrown in. The characters have seen their hard times and the best part is they address that in the comic. It's not like a new team has come in with a clean page ignoring everything but instead takes it head on and is building something off of it. It has all the right feels of Guardians Vol 3 along with what made the comic such a big hit for me years ago.
Knight Terrors Green Lantern #2> As Hal Jordan is swallowed by the nightmare wave, Earth's Green Lantern shows this new malevolent threat what a man with the willpower to overcome fear can do. Meanwhile, as Sinestro grapples with the terrifying new dreamscape he's trapped in, we take a psychological roller coaster ride through his darkest fears-and most painful regrets. (S) Jeremy Adams (A) Eduardo Pansica, Jordi Tarragona, and Julio Ferreira
Smurfs Take> Horror and Green Lantern just seem to fit so well it's ridiculous, and why this hasn't been more of the approach for the title is a huge miss. That said, and it's more than just me being a GL fan, this is great…I mean really good and should be the top of everyone's pull.
Haunt You To The End #3> THE CLOTTED BLOOD OF A BROKEN WORLD. Dr. O'Connell and Padre Sandoval join the away team as they investigate the hulking wreck of Isla Lodo's petroleum plant and oil derricks. But biohazards and tormented spirits aren't the only horrors waiting in rusting ruins; one crewmember with ulterior motives may be enough to spell disaster for them all. (S) Ryan Cady (A) Andrea Mutti
Smurfs Take> I don't even know where to start describing this title. I don't want to give anything away or spoil anything about it. The last two issues haven't been anything I expected from a comic or from an Image book. Really liking the "unknow" approach this is taking as they explore some dark ideas.
Knight Terrors Shazam #2> Trapped in the Nightmare Realm, Mary Marvel thinks she's discovered her greatest fear-but she is wrong. She won't emerge from her dreamscape the way she entered it…at least not if the Nightmare Captain has anything to say about it! (S) Mark Waid (A) RogerCruz
Smurfs Take> I think I said this before but I'm going to say it again. I like Mary Marvel more than Shazam. There're so many things you can do with this character, and we saw that with the first issue. I enjoyed this character when she was going a little dark a few years ago but this might just surpass it and with luck gets her own title. Stellar first issue from Waid and ready for more!
Return of the Jedi Max Rebo #1> WHO IS PLOTTING TO KILL JABBA THE HUTT? Wait…someone ELSE is plotting to kill one of the galaxy's most infamous gangsters? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! When you're JABBA THE HUTT, you make a lot of enemies…and sometimes, they're even under your employ! MAX REBO and the band have their own plans on how to deal with a mobster like Jabba… This issue bookends our JABBA'S PALACE one-shot and leads directly into the RETURN OF THE JEDI film! (S) Daniel Older (A) Paul Fry
Smurfs Take> The immortal Max Rebo! I don't know why I like this goofy ass character, I just do. I've come up with my own back story for him years ago and was excited that he popped back up with all of the new stories. Will this compare to the story I made for him? Who's to say, but something a little different and a chance to expand on the Star Wars universe I'm in.
