Friday night was a first for me. The General and I went to watch the Blanco High School team play football. Before you assume we are integrating ourselves in our new community, let me hasten to say we were coloring outside the lines. That being said, it was an enjoyable evening. The weather was perfect, and the home-side of the stadium was mostly full.
For starters, Craig, Jake and Pablo (a foreign exchange student from Chile being hosted by our son's family), arrived for the game and stopped by the house for dinner before heading to the stadium. It was an extended family outing. By the way, it was the first time Craig has seen our home since we moved in. Our daughter and son-in-law were also present.
The General also invited her brother, nephew, and his family to dinner before the game as well. Her nephew's son, Rowdy Topper, is a senior and plays MLB for the Blanco Panthers. His jersey is #13 and he did an outstanding job of ensuring the team from Marion didn't score. Lots of players carrying the ball were brought down by Rowdy.
We rode to the game as a family. Kevin and Andrea have a new vehicle that can accommodate seven people. So where was the high school stadium? The General just naturally assumes that I know everything. Truth be told, on most days, she doesn't think I know anything. I had no idea where the high school is located.
It was past my bedtime before we called it a day on Friday. Craig, Jake and Pablo were heading back to Cat Spring on Saturday after a day of football on television. Of course, Andrea and Kevin were also joining us. That is kind of where the wheels fell off the wagon.
We had a couple of different options for a streaming service, but I had not yet signed up for either. It had been my intent to sign up for Hulu. The General thought You Tube was a better option. For starters, that is the option that Andrea and Kevin now use. In addition, her sister and brother-in-law in Florida also uses You Tube.
On Saturday morning, I was dispatched to the local grocery store in Blanco. I needed charcoal for the grill. That, too, was a source of contention. My grill isn't that big. The general planned for me to grill both beef and chicken for fajitas. I'm a simple guy – make it one or the other. The way I see it, the call was mine to make. If you agree with me, don't kid yourself. You know that I grilled both and it worked out okay.
The General works on the notion that everything needed to fall perfectly in place. She had pulled out all the stops for dinner on Friday and for lunch on Saturday. She even planned on homemade ice cream for desert to go with the homemade cherry cobbler.
I'm at the grocery store in Blanco when I received a call from the General asking me how the You Tube channel for watching football works? There was an accusatory tone in her voice. She was clear in her expectation. I should have figured that out before game day. In fact, if I didn't come up with a solution soon, the party was being moved from our house to our daughter's.
Did I mention that both the General and I can go haywire in our thought processes? Our company was not threatening to leave. It turned out to be a really nice day and trust me, You Tube worked fine on our television.
The General prepared enough food that we can have leftovers for half a week. That takes pressure off of what's for lunch and dinner today.
