Daily writing prompt
What's a topic or issue about which you've changed your mind?
I changed my mind on self-care. When I had my first child, I believed that my child's needs always came first. My needs come first at the beginning of every day. I don't feel guilty about it. I am a better person, wife, and mother by setting that time for myself. I get up before my family does to make sure I take care of my physical and emotional well-being. I am a person who carries stress in my body. Every bit of stress and worry will show up in my neck, shoulders, and hips. Getting into the gym from 5a.m. to 7 a.m. 6 days a week, movement keeps me settled. Every single day I go for a run, complete my weight training cycle, and do pilates. My husband and I run a homestead with animals and a lot of gardening. I learned that putting myself first is putting my family first. I am more patient when things are going if I am in the gym on the daily. I go to bed and wake up pain-free, even after a day of hard work. However, don't use I need to take care of my family first be an excuse.
I have seen women say, "My family comes first". As they age, their kids end up having to take care of them because they didn't take of THEMSELVES. However, are you putting your family first, if you aren't taking care of yourself? If you allow yourself to be overweight, or allow your body to atrophy? You end up being a burden to your family you claim to love and put first. Physical fitness is as active as you can be for as long as you can.
Proverbs 31 : 17 calls for women to strengthen their bodies for what God may call them to do. Inner and outer fortitude to be a strong woman. I often pray the rosary with my weight training reps and prayers for others.
