Now that we're in the new year, I'm hoping to finish more projects than I did last year! In 2023, I finished mostly small projects and plodded through a few large ones. I'm hoping to make a few changes that will have me excited about sewing again!
The blocks above are from the original (brown cover) Farmer's wife quilt book. I love the color scheme, but I'm not interested in finishing the quilt as directed. I have a few other patriotic pieces of patchwork that I'll be using to make this into a smaller quilt than originally envisioned. I'll be happy to have it off my plate this year!
My Rowdy Flats Library Quilt is a lovely start. However, I'm truly out of my depth with this quilt. I've needed to simplify the first block to get through it, so I'm going to be done after the first block. I'll make it into a wall hanging, and it will be pretty and finished!
This patriotic sampler is close to being finished. I will hand quilt the last half of the quilt over the winter, I hope. I had intended to make this into a pattern, but the pattern writing proved an arduous task. I've decided it doesn't need to be a pattern after all! Or at least not right now. It'll be finished soon.....
Which is good because I'm starting a new quilt. My daughter wants a wedding ring quilt. After hemming and hawing about my method, I'm just going to do it the old-fashioned way. I'll be cutting out templates, hand tracing on fabric, then machine piecing those fabrics together to make the rings. There are various other methods, but that's what I got!
This last quilt is the one I hope to be working on this time next year. I hope to get back to working on one quilt at a time, taking my time to do it well. It's a Radiant Star Quilt, all English paper piecing. There are 27 full stars, and six half stars in the finished quilt, so I'm about a third of the way done. I'll enjoy taking my time with this one when the time comes!
Sometimes assessing what's happening (or not happening) in the sewing room is necessary to moving forward. Taking stock has helped me make good decisions for my sewing projects! It feels good to have a plan for the year in the sewing room!
I hope you're having a good new year! Happy 2024!
Stacy
