Soul Mates - Budget Unknown - 1 hour and 35 minutes
Allison wakes up in an unknown room on a bed and regurgitates. She sees a handcuff on one wrist attached to an unknown man. She gingerly gets out of bed and grabs a lamp to defend herself. The man, Jason, opens his eyes, and Allison instantly startles him. She claims he kidnapped her, but he says someone attacked him. Allison recalls that two men knocked her out before she awoke in the room. They check the door and windows but don't have a way out. They look in a drawer and find a business card for Soul Mates with the tagline, 'Where the 1 is one swipe away.'
They locate a key and open the door. The pair enter a room with a tablet, TV, and photos on the wall. On one wall are pictures of Allison inside her home, with her grandmother, and around town. On the other are private photos of Jason and his fiancée, Liana. Then, the Matchmaker appears on the TV. He welcomes them to Soul Mates and promises to find them the love of their life. Then, a video of Allison appears. She talks about her past relationships and trying out the dating service for something new. Allison admits to making the tape but says it's from 4 years ago. Next, Jason appears on the screen, talking to his friend. Jason confesses he wants to find the right woman and settle down. Jason remembers the conversation but didn't permit anyone to record it. The Matchmaker warns them to sign up for Soul Mates before the walls of love close in on them. The tablet displays terms and conditions with an accept button as the walls move toward the middle of the room. They enter their information, accept the fine print, and the walls stop. Jason discerns that someone is trying to kill them. Allison doesn't know what the Matchmaker has in store for them next, but she believes they can only survive together. Jason and Allison will have the worst and deadliest first date in history.
Each step on the app takes the couple through a different dating scenario. The two sing karaoke, eat, go to movies, and get to know each other. If they don't follow the rules, the Matchmaker will murder them or someone they love. Their dependence on and respect for each other grows with each task, and they support each other through tears, blood, and burial. This thriller plot will captivate you and make you question if your relationship can weather the storm. Be warned, the end is not the conclusion. The Matchmaker has more waiting for this duo. While watching this film, you may recognize techniques therapist uses in couples counseling to strengthen fractured bonds. However, these two have a few hours instead of sessions. This movie is the right fit for a Valentine's Day rental. It has jump scares and love, like many relationships.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
Can I try the door - Jason
What the hell is this - Allison
