Why Special Easter Brunch? Well, there are some simple explanations. Many Christians attend the Easter Vigil which ends late on Saturday night. Sunday morning is for catching up on sleep. There are others who wake up at the crack of dawn on Easter morning to make their way to Church to celebrate Easter. Easter is the greatest feast day of the year for Christians.
Brunch is perfect for Easter, because it is actually a special feast day late breakfast for Church-goers. A heavy late breakfast leaves very little room for lunch, unless one has a late Easter Lunch.
Why the Easter Bunny and the Easter Egg? To be honest, I have never wondered why Easter Bunnies? From a quick online search, I found out that the Easter Hare has a German origin. The Easter Hare was similar to Santa Claus, with the role of judging if children were deserving of gifts. The gifts were coloured eggs, candies and toys. I have never thought about why Easter Eggs? It was more obvious ─ eggs represent life, and Easter is the celebration of new life and of hope. What was new to me was that empty egg shells represented the empty tomb on Easter morning.
We had a simple Easter Brunch this morning with many special details. Elena is our artistic director when it comes to table decorations. She has an eye for beauty and she can put decorative pieces together in almost no time. Quite a skill!
Nelly baked a Colomba, an Italian Easter bread in the shape of a dove with almonds and sugar on top. It is not common to find Colomba in Singapore, and much less common to find home-made Colomba.
I remember saving sweets in a bottle during Lent as a child, and having them for Easter. Somehow the sweets were more special because they had cost some sacrifice. Sweets also somehow taste nicer when they are shared.
