Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Review
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Budget of $168 million - 2 hours and 28 minutes
Furiosa plucks fruit with her sister, Valkyrie, when she sees scavengers in their woods. Furiosa's home is an oasis, The Green Place, in the wastelands, and she has to protect it. She tells Valkyrie to hide while she impairs the scavenger's vehicles. One of the scavengers captures and kidnaps Furiosa. Valkyrie warns their mother, Mary. Mary grabs supplies and weapons. Mary's friend demands that Mary leave no survivors to keep The Green Place a secret. Mary finds Furiosa but gets captured by Dementus, the biker leader. Dementus sees Furiosa is in good health and demands to know her origin. Both refuse to talk. So Dementus makes Furiosa watch as he kills her mother. Furiosa declines to speak again as Dementus keeps her in chains.
Dementus sees his men are starving and orders Immortan Joe, ruler of the Citadel, to give his people more food and water. When Joe doesn't listen, Dementus captures the ruler of Gastown and brings him to the Citadel. Joe gives in to some of Dementus's requests and makes Dementus the new ruler of Gastown. However, Joe wants Furiosa as a future wife because she has never been sick. Furiosa moves into Joe's vault with his other wives. Furiosa must escape Joe, get revenge for Mary, and return to The Green Place.
This prequel has the action you expect from the Mad Max series while answering fanatics' questions about Furiosa (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). In Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa briefly discusses her past with Max while helping the wives escape Joe. This installment tells you who kidnapped her, what happened to her arm, the start of her face paint, and how she developed into a War Rig commander and Imperator. The director uniquely captured the time elapse by tracking a wig on a tree branch and brought clear and concise fighting to large action sequences. Also, this movie, unlike its predecessor, is told in four parts - The Pole Inaccessibility, Lessons from the Wasteland, The Stowaway, and Homeward. And the director brilliantly connected the two movies for die-hard fans in the last scene. When there isn't an explosion to rely on, the dialogue and storytelling dulls.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Pull over! - Furiosa

The Garfield Movie - Review
The Garfield Movie - Budget of $60 million - 1 hour and 41 minutes
Garfield waits for his father, Vic, to return but can't ignore his stomach after hours alone. Garfield smells food coming out of a restaurant and stands outside the window. Lonely, Jon looks out the window and sees Garfield's sad eyes. Jon opens the window and gives Garfield a few slices of pepperoni. Then, Garfield devours it. Garfield decides to go with Jon because Vic never returned. Jon takes Garfield home and later adopts Odie.
Today, Garfield and Odie enjoy the good life, excluding Mondays. Garfield has food on request, toys, and Catflix. Garfield wakes up for his midnight snack and opens the fridge. He asks Odie to make an eggroll with everything on the bottom two shelves. Someone kidnaps Odie and Garfield before Odie cooks.
The kidnappers, Noland and Roland, hang Odie and Garfield by their feet and leave them there. Then, a masked cat cuts them down. Garfield recognizes the cat as Vic, his father. Garfield doesn't want to exit with Vic because Vic abandoned him in the alley. Vic says there is more to the story but doesn't have time to explain. Jinx appears from the darkness and scares everyone. She ordered Roland and Noland to take Garfield and Odie to lure Vic out of hiding. Jinx and Vic were in a crew. They broke into Lactose Farms to steal milk. When the city pound caught Jinx, Vic left her behind. Now, she wants Vic to steal a quart of milk - for each day she was in the pound. It will be a lot of milk because Jinx was in prison for over four years. She tells Vic to take Garfield and Odie with him to help. Can this heist repair this broken bond?
This movie has good intentions but doesn't spark laughter. It had physical, slapstick humor for kids. And it slipped in adult, non-sexual jokes. When Jon gets winded exercising on a Peloton, Odie, and Garfield decide to put the bike in its natural state - by hanging clothes on it (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). In one scene, Garfield bounces back and forth between trees multiple times before landing on the train. The plot's saving grace is explaining a father's love and sacrifice to the audience. Garfield feels abandoned, but he is never alone. However, that message loses its luster with the multiple product placements.
I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

Sight - Review
Sight - Budget Unknown - 1 hour and 40 minutes
Dr. Ming Wang successfully restored the sight of another patient at the Wang Vision Institute. He credits his assistant, Ruth, and his surgical partner, Misha Bartnovsky. Misha wants to celebrate, but Ming focuses on the work. Ming gets a new patient named Kajal from Calcutta, India, days later. A nun found Kajal in the street and prayed someone could restore Kajal's vision. Ming looks into her eyes and thinks he can't treat her case. At first, Ming doesn't want to do the surgery. Then, Misha explains Kajal's brutal scarring. Her stepmother uncovered that people pay more to blind beggars on the street. So Kajal's stepmother poured sulfuric acid into Kajal's eyes. Ming gets a vision of an old schoolmate, Lili. Ming decides to help Kajal in a way he could never do for Lili. Ming will discover that there is more to sight than seeing.
Based on From Darkness to Sight: A Journey from Hardship to Healing by Dr. Ming Wang, M.D. Ph.D., this movie shows the viewer the beauty of tenacity, triumphs, and failures (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Ming's past haunts him while he tries to save Kajal. He lived through the Chinese Cultural Revolution and made his way to MIT. Overcoming his past was a driving force in his career until this case. While this movie will spark joy and inspiration, the audience won't want to buy it. However, you may want to share it.

Is it a good smile? - Kajal
When are you going to let me fix on your eyes - Ming
What do you think happens when we die - Lili
