David Leitch, the director of "Bullet Train", "Atomic Blonde" and even "Deadpool 2" has got a new movie out called "The Fall Guy". Loosely based on the 80's TV show that starred the great Lee Majors about a Hollywood stuntman that moonlights as a bounty hunter for extra money. Not sure if this is a Reboot, Remake or Tribute, but I do remember the TV show fondly, so I am hoping for something good here especially when Leitch is known for *Good Action* in his films.
*The MEAT* The story is *Mediocre and Predictable* at best, but in this movie, it works well because it is not to be taken seriously. Just like the TV show, it's more about a fun ride for the viewer and nothing much more than that. Unfortunately, the main character is not a bounty hunter which was much to my surprise.
*The PATATOES* The acting department has Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling. Again, it seems like Emily Blunt has been in a ton of movies this year, and again she does a good job here as expected. And Ryan Gosling, again, does a great job in selling his role perfectly to the audience. No, these are not Academy performances here, but it does feel like they let you in on their little joke of not taking these roles too seriously.
*The VERDICT* "The Fall Guy" was surprisingly *Fun and Enjoyable* thanks mostly to the chemistry between Blunt and Gosling and just the overall fun theme of it all. But it was during the end credits, they showed how most of the stunts were done in the movie while playing a new version of the original "Fall Guy" theme song (which was cool, by the way), I realized a new perspective on what I just watched because the film makers went all out on old school stunts, no CGI magic here just wires and controlled crashes to make up most of all the action. That really made me appreciate this movie as much as I enjoyed the overall mindless ride of it all. The director, David Leitch used to be a stuntman, and this was his big Thankyou/Tribute to the unsung heroes of action in Hollywood more so than rebooting an old TV show. So, I say that alone was well worth the price of admission.
