Frugality is not about stingy, it is about utilizing resources to live your best life. Zero-waste living informed my choices and the result was lower grocery bills and better health. We do not purchase convenience foods. We create one bag of trash every two weeks. I used to have 3 large trash cans every week.
My kids weren't thrilled when we eliminated box snacks. For example, pudding cups. I knew our son loved butterscotch pudding. It takes minutes to make. I simply made a batch and put it in the fridge. One taste of real butterscotch pudding and he was sold. The next snack was Smartfood popcorn. I could go on and on with what you could replace. I make a week's worth of snacks in about an hour. The drive takes me over an hour.
My oldest daughter and I chatted yesterday about the prices of things. Barbie clothes are a great example. Two Barbie outfits for 11 dollars. You are paying for the Logo. I sewed my granddaughter 20 Barbie outfits from my fabric stores. So her Barbies will be well-dressed. I tucked them in a card and they are on their way.
Chickens need grit. A bag of grit is 14 dollars a bag. You can make grit by saving eggshells, rinsing, and baking them at 350. You crush them and add them to their food. This way they can digest the foods we give them Cost-free because I usually compose egg shells anyway. Rural living requires planning. Housing costs were more affordable. The Grand Junction area housing 8 years ago was insane. We rented for a year before we bought a house. The same house in Grand Junction would have 3 times the cost. These are the things you need to look at when you relocate to an area.
Borrow or use your child's drone to check the condition of your roof. I used our son's to check our roof before the repair. I use this for any place I need to get a look at. I am not a fan of ladders. You can save yourself a lot of headaches. I used this technology when we needed some swamp cooler work. I was able to send the information right to his cell phone. He took 25% of the bill because it saved him time.
