Daily writing prompt
What quality do you value most in a friend?
I just spent the afternoon yesterday with my life long best friend. His father-in-law passed away on Saturday so I went over and took some food and spent some time with him hanging out and chatting it up. He did the exact same thing for me when my mom and dad died. I have known Todd since the 6th grade. When he moved into my school district in the 6th grade, I was the first person to talk to him in class. We sat at lunch together and have been best buds ever since. Now we fast forward to the ripe old age of 57 years old and we are still as tight as we could ever be with each other.
The difference is we both have been married over 30 years and have grown children and careers we are handling. We do not get together as much as we need to but talk weekly and still hang out when we can. With this background I would say what I value in a friend is below.
1- Loyalty: I am huge on loyalty and appreciate those that are loyal to myself and my family. In return I can give that loyalty back.
2- Compassion: Having a friend that understands your life and things about you and you family is huge. A compassionate friend is great to have.
3- Honesty: I always want my friends to be honest with me on things. I do not want sugar coating, I want it straight from the horses mouth.
4- Values: Most of my close friends carry the same values I carry. We think alike on many things such as faith, family and friends.
5- Got My Back: A good friend can be called at anytime and they will drop what they are doing and are there instantly. Todd is that guy for me. We are joined at the hip and would take a beating, bullet or train for one another.
Lastly, a good friend is just that. They are available and open to being your friend, buddy, pal, and all those other things we call one another. My friend Todd is gold and I wouldn't take anyone over him.
