Despite how the founding fathers of the U.S. already had set this up, and yet, this is now, "up-for-grabs" on the immunity clause of that "last guy", Trump, as he'd, INSERTED the Republican Party Supreme Court Justices who are bound to rule in his favor, to allow him to run for office this November before he'd EXITED the "building" that last time…from The New York Times that came with today's papers…
Did the American Revolution actually happen? If it did, was it a good thing?
This is more or less what Justice Elena Kagan seemed to be wondering during the oral arguments in Donald Trump's January sixth immunity case at the Supreme Court on Thursday morning.
"Wasn't the whole point that the president was not a monarch and the president was not supposed to be above the law?" she asked.
Like her, I had assumed those questions were answered decisively in the affirmative more than two hundred years ago. But ow, after almost three hours of circuitous debate and bizarre hypotheticals at the Supreme Court, I'm not so sure.
the rioters, testifying that Trump told them "to come" on Jan. 6th, and this still may NOT be enough as evidence to PREVENT the LAST GUY from running again...
The right-wing justices seemed thoroughly uninterested in the case before them, which involves a violent insurrection that was led by a sitting president who is seeking to return to office in a matter of months. Instead, they spent the morning and early afternoon, appearing to be more worried that prosecuting Trump could risk future malicious prosecution of former president by their political rivals. And they tried to draw a distinction between official acts, for which a president might have immunity from prosecution, and private acts for which no immunity would apply.
The upshot was that a majority of justice appeared prepared to send the case back down to the lower courts for further unnecessary litigation, which would almost certainly eliminate any chance of a trial being held before Election Day.
So let's remember how we got here. The case began last year with special counsel Hack Smith's indictment of the former president on charges of obstruction, fraud and conspiracy relating to his central role to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election, which resulted in the deadly attack at the U.S. Capitol. This scheme was, by a long shot, the most egregious abuse of authority by any president in history.
In short, the justice system is doing its job by trying to hold to account a former president for subverting the last election before he runs in the next one. That is a very important job! And yet the right-wing justices are saying essentially, not so fast—and maybe not at all.
The federal January 6th trial should have been underway for almost two months by this point. The lower courts, in opinions by judges appointed by both Republicans and Democrats, dispatched this appeal with ease. But the Supreme Court decided to take the case anyway, scheduling it for the final argument of the term.
And, this is how Trump utilizes the DELAY tactics, so he can, be on the roster to run for presidency in November, I mean, all he had to do, is hold out until past November, when he gets into office again (and I'm pretty sure that he will too, seeing how BIDEN is becoming more and more, demented, and the REPUBLICAN cult has a way of inciting ANGER in the masses, and those BRAINLESS voters are just, going to, keep on following that god DAMN leader of that CULT, down that CLIFF!), he would have gotten his immunity of getting charged for his role in the takeover of Congress on January sixth (was it now???), and he would've, escaped the consequences of his immoral behaviors, because before he was ousted in the last election, he'd already, IMPLANTED the Republican Supreme Court justice into their seats, and, guess W-H-O, these party-affiliated justices will side with? Exactly, and JUST like Taiwan, the U.S. justice system still got KIDNAPPED by an equally CORRUPT political party like the DDP here, the Good Ol' Party, the REPUBLICANS!
Note: I'm still INDEPENDENT voter, I only vote on issues, but why the HELL bother, I mean, if the votes are against the wishes of the city council, they're just going to host another voting, to OVERTURN the voices of the majority of voters that last time, just like how the votes in redistricting that I'd participated in, back in….can't remember when, it did NOT pass the first time, and the second time, the city council revoted on the matter, none of us who voted against redistricting showed up to cast our ballot, and the second time, this SHIT passed, but hey, that's DEMOCRACY in application for you!
