Dear Snarky,
I'm a real girly girl and I'm having a formal wedding where all the guests have been requested to wear pink. I think it's going to be fun and beautiful. My issue isn't someone not wearing pink, it's that I don't want anyone at my wedding that's not going to be dressed appropriately and by that I mean not wearing formal attire.
We just sent our invitations out and they clearly state formal attire and we even added tuxedo, dark suit, or floor length gown so there could be no misunderstanding about what you're supposed to wear. This information is also on our website.
Because I've been to a lot of weddings lately and I've seen guests showing up in Hawaiian shirts and flip flops or cotton sundresses that look like a pool cover up I want to strictly enforce my wedding dress code.
To that end, do you think it's okay to have bouncers/security to tell anyone who shows up not adhering to the dress code that they can't enter the church or reception.
Signed, I Swear I'm Not A Brat Just A Bride With a Vision
Dear Not a Brat,
For the love of all that is holy DO NOT have what amounts to the fashion police at your wedding. Sure, a few people might not adhere to the wedding dress code due to budget issues or even health problems like maybe they need to wear an ugly shoe due to a foot issue but the majority of people coming will.
Also, if you liked someone enough to invite them to your wedding then surely you don't want them to experience the embarrassment and humiliation of being told they can't enter the church or reception venue based on their clothes.
And have you considered that if you want this wedding to be all about you and your vision etc that having guests being bounced from your wedding will 100 percent be the only thing your guests will talk about and remember.
As in, "Did you hear that the groom's aunt wasn't let into the wedding because she wore pants and they weren't even pink?"
Or "OMG the bride's mother's best friend was stopped from going into the church because she didn't have on a long gown and she was so upset she cried, right there on the church steps."
So, if you don't want to take the attention off yourself, your gown, your first dance, your reception etc. I recommend being a tad more gracious about who shows up wearing what because the alternative is having a wedding everyone will most certainly remember but it will be in the worst way possible.

Lord have mercy that was a lot. Let's quickly move on to something that's 100 percent a delight - my books. 😎 From Empty a "laugh till you cry" menopausal revenge adventure perfect for any woman who buys wrinkle cream in bulk to the Snarky four pack - Back to School, Trouble in Texas, Four Seasons of Snarky and Killer Dance Mom.
Back to School is a hysterical read for every mom who's marinated in elementary school parent drama. Trouble in Texas is a tall tale of what happens when a mother just can't stop meddling and enlists her 40 something daughter in her schemes. Four Seasons of Snarky is the ideal book to give to someone who needs a primer on suburban revenge plots. AND Killer Dance Mom is the first Snarky mystery that involves all the crazy of being a dance mom especially when a judge gets murdered.
