The greater love of the young girl's parents is, completely, SELFLESS, losing their beloved daughter, and they'd made the decisions, to keep her alive in other children whom she can help after she was, gone, this is, an all too difficult, and truly, selfless decision these parents had, made, on organ donations, off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
This Was the Very First Case of the MacKay Memorial Hospital Children's Department in a Decade
The seven-year-old girl, "Lulu" (a false name) contracted the flu this April, had a fever for two days consecutively, then lost consciousness, was taken to the MacKay Memorial Children's Hospital E.R. As she got into the hospital, the brain stem reflexes was reduced by half, there were also the symptoms of epilepsy and myocarditis, despite how the medical staff worked hard to save her, she was still brain damaged. Sixty-eight days in the hospital, Lulu was pronounced brain dead, her parents decided to donate her heart, her liver, and kidneys, giving new hopes to three more families.
Lulu was the very first case of organ donation after being confirmed as medically brain dead in the ten years' history of MacKay Memorial Children's Hospital, she is also a rare child donor. The primary physician of cardiology of Children's Hospital, Tien told, that Lulu had no other medical histories, but as she'd contracted the flu, she'd had the acute myocarditis and encephalitis, and all of these rare and deadly complications, caused her to be a severe symptom flu patient.
Tien told, the first two days Lulu had been submitted, the team of medical experts had discussed the means of organ donation with her parents, due to the severely damaged medulla in Lulu, there's a very low chance of her making a recovery. After a little over a month long's treatment, Lulu still didn't regain consciousness, to the point of needing a ventilator to live, the team of medical experts switched her to "hospice-like" care, giving her small amounts of drugs and the needed nutrients to maintain her organ function.
On how Lulu's brain stem being permanent damaged, despite how unwilling to let their daughters go, Lulu's parents finally decided to sign the organ donations forms. The social worker, Kuo who help mediate the process of organ donation stated, after a complete assessment, and evaluation, Lulu's heart, liver and kidneys, had all found the donors, and the transplants had all been, made.
Tien stated, after Lulu contracted the flu, she'd started running a high fever, vomiting, losing strengths in her arms and legs, losing consciousness, the classic of the severest symptoms of the flu, even as her parents rushed her into treatment, in the end, she'd still, died, and he'd made the suggestions to the parents to inoculate children from six months to elementary years to get the flu shots to reduce the chances of death.
So, this is, a really sad case because this young girl died from contracting the flu, and, yet, her parents made the selfless decision on her behalf, donating her organs, and, it's this, grander love of the parents, that, saved the lives of, three more families with young children, and so, this child's death was, meaningful, to say the least, but this still does NOT take away from the losses of the parents who'd lost this lovely child of theirs, Lulu.
