#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! It's here! The weekend we have all been waiting for, the All C's Collector Showcase! A floor full of vendors and artists that you don't have to pay to see meaning more to spend. This week Poison Ivy hits #25 and we get some interesting developments in Absolute Power & Batman. Marvel gives us a classic faceoff in Daredevil, another X-Men title, and an Incredible Hulk vs. the strongest there ever was. Don't miss Holy Roller from Image as it closes in on its last issue and Rook Exodus continues to look amazing and a story that leaves the reader stunned. Army of Darkness Forever might be worth a second look this week as well, be sure to stop by our booth this weekend at the showcase; but for now, we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Scarlett #4> Scarlett has infiltrated the Arashikage for one purpose—locate and extract Jinx…but the true purpose of her best friend's mission becomes clear, and it's an enormous game changer for the entire Energon Universe! (S) Kelly Thompson (A) Marco Ferrari, Lee Loughridge
Smurfs Take> I think what I like more than the story is the fact that Snake Eyes isn't in it. I know that might come as a shock but the departure from the norm has been fantastic so far and why wreck it. The story so far has been close to perfect and has changed my on Scarlett as a character and excited to see how they expand on Jinx who I felt never got enough time.
Plastic Man No More #1> BOOK ONE
Eel O'Brian might be a superhero now–but before he was anything else, he was a crook. Until the accident that turned him into the pliable Plastic Man, Eel was bad to the bone…and just because he no longer has bones doesn't mean that's not still true. When an incident on a Justice League mission leads to catastrophic cellular damage, Plastic Man discovers he just might be out of time to make amends for the past he's tried hard to outrun–or to save the soul of his son, who (unfortunately for him) might have inherited more from dear old Dad than just his superpowers… (S) Christopher Cantwell (A) Alex Lins
Smurfs Take> He should be the posterchild for the B league but when he was part of the JLA I couldn't have been more wrong. I still think there was more to tell and do with the character but just seemed to fall short and now it seems DC is taking another swing at it. I think always making it a comedy style or kid friendly story has been a mistake and competing with Elongated Man has never been helpful, but this looks promising and a step towards something gritty.
Ultimates #4> THE FATE OF THE ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR! Doom's years of torture at the hands of the Maker finally catch up to him in this secret history of the real Reed Richards! And tensions rise among the Ultimates when Doom might be more fixated on re-creating the life he should have had than the life he's got… (S) Deniz Camp (A) Phil Noto
Smurfs Take> Of the Ultimate title's I honestly feel like this one has the most potential, even more than Spidey. It's already been done (a few times) and is just another variation while the Ultimates has a great opportunity to take characters in a whole new direction which could be some compelling reads. So far It hasn't blown the doors off, but it keeps steadily building to what I hope is a huge payoff.
Penguin #12> WATERY GRAVE – Part One
Oswald Cobblepot's master plans for Gotham had him feeling like he had the whole city in the palm of his flipper. But it's all gone so very wrong. Now, trapped in the Batmobile alongside his most hated enemy, sinking into a watery grave, the Penguin has found himself wondering if it was all for naught. But Batman's avian adversary may have one more scheme up his feathered sleeve–if it isn't too late. The Penguin's epic saga ends here! (S) Tom King (A) Rafael De Latorre
Smurfs Take> Of all of Batman's Rogues gallery Penguin is my least favorite. Nothing against him, just thought there were cooler and far more dangerous characters then a guy based on a flightless bird. With that said I have a newfound respect for the character after this series that has been stronger than most of the Bat-Books surrounding it. Just what the doctor ordered to get away from over saturation of the Joker.
Immortal Thor #15> RETURN TO ASGARD! In a place of darkness, a deeper darkness threatened to claim Thor - one that only the Odinson himself could defeat. And back in the sunshine of Asgard, the Enchantress waited - to discuss what Thor owed her and what she held over him. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR...and of the responsibilities of power. (S) Al Ewing (A) Jan Bazaldua
Smurfs Take> This series has been fantastic and the last few issues with Herc was a blast. The story has been consistently solid and might have been overlooked among a shelf of different options. To be honest Thor has been a staple for me for a few years now that I eagerly await every month and very rarely disappointed in. The direction and stories in this run have been some of the most entertaining and a feel of classic Thor but with a twist.
