Yesterday's early morning telephone call from my daughter caught me totally off-guard. Her question garnered my full attention! My brain chemistry orchestrated a "red alert" reaction to her question.
She asked: "Dad, Does Seaton Southwest - the hospital across the street from the new HEB in Austin - have an emergency room? Intuitively, the expressed need for emergency medical care garnered my full attention. I was now fully awake!
My daughter obviously was asking the question because Seaton Southwest is the closest hospital to Henly, where she and Kevin make their home. I had known for a couple-of-days that Kevin wasn't feeling well. He had even self-administered an at-home COVID test on Friday. The test came back negative.
Consequently, his illness was not COVID related. Of course, that is only true if you can trust the validity of a COVID test made in China? Forgive me if I am wrong, but there seems to be something wrong with this picture.
Maybe I fall into the category of skeptical? The country that brought us COVID would be the last place I'd turn, to find validity in a testing instrument. Am I the only person who thinks that way? The U.S. has subsequently spent over a billion dollars on testing instruments for COVID that were "made in China".
Earlier last month, on September 19th, President Biden announced that the COVID pandemic is over. From my perspective, affirmation from the President of the United States affirmng the end of an egregious horror story that has taken the lives of over 6.5 million people world-wide wasn't necessary and perhaps not even credible. I'm more interested about what the medical community has to say about the pandemic and the subsequent looming threat.
The need for wearing face-masks has all but disappeared in most aspects of our daily lives unless you have a medical appointment in some doctor's offices.
One of my doctor's office's no longer requires the wearing of a face mask for appointments. Interestingly, it is the doctor's office the previously required confirmation of a negative COVID test before you could even come into the office.
For the most part, people aren't wearing face-masks any longer. That is certainly true for me. I only wear a facemask if it is required.
In the early stages of the pandemic, I know more than half a dozen people whos lives were forfeited by the pandemic. In more recent months, I've known more than a dozen people who were subsequently diagnosed with COVID following their receipt of the vaccine, but no major negative-side-effects from the illness surfaced. It almost seems unbelievable.
My son-in-law does not fall into the aforementioned category. He is very ill and was retained in the hospital yesterday because his oxygen level was way too low. By the way, a second COVID test affirmed his illness is COVID. In addition, his elevated temperature has been all over the board; with a high of 102.9.
The General and I subsequently went to Andrea and Kevin's home to keep their dogs. Andrea has no plan to leave the hospital until Kevin does.
Walking into their home, I noticed a green Metholatum bottle on an end-table in their living area. At first, I couldn't believe my eyes! Could it be that in a desperate attempt to breathe, Kevin pulled out all the stops and decided to at least follow in his father-in-law's footsteps and try Mentholatum?
I can't recommend Mentholatum highly enough. Both my father and I used Metholatum regularly. I can tell you from experience that it makes a nice difference in garnering the ability to breathe. Up until now, both my daughter and son-in-law would have said: "No way Jose concerning the use of Mentholatum!" Obviously, that has now changed.
I have not heard from Andrea this morning concerning Kevin's condition. Your subsequent prayer support for Kevin is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
