John Cena's Peacemaker was a standout character among standout characters in this year's James Gunn-directed The Suicide Squad movie. Before the film even released it was announced that the character would be getting an HBO Max spinoff series, and today during the DC Fandome event Gunn, Cena, and the rest of the cast of the series debuted a first look at the upcoming TV series.

The cast of the eight-episode Peacemaker series also includes returning The Suicide Squad actors Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland as John Economos and Emelia Harcourt, respectively; Danielle Brooks as James Gunn-created character Leota Adebayo; and Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Peacemaker, among others. Another notable addition to the group, mentioned specifically by Cena during the Fandome panel, is Eagley, a computer-generated bald eagle who Cena said steals the show.

The series picks up after the post-credits scene of The Suicide Squad, with a newly-recovered Peacemaker working for Economos, Harcourt, and co. on a mission to save the world.

The HBO Max Peacemaker series debuts next year.
