Gene Luen Yang and Bernard Chang introduced a new character to the DC Universe, The Monkey Prince, in this year's Festival of Heroes one-shot featuring Asian and Asian-American characters from across the DCU. Now the character is set to return in a new 12-issue miniseries form Yang and Chang. Announced at DC Fandome today, the series will kick off in February 2022.
Along with the announcement of the new series, DC has released "Apokolips in the Heavenly Realm," a new short story starring The Monkey Prince that's available to read for free on dccomics.com.
The character Monkey Prince is inspired by the Monkey King, the hero of the 16th Century Chinese novel Journey to the West. In his debut story, Monkey Prince teamed with Captain Marvel to battle Dr. Sivana and a Chinese deer demon spirit.
