Happy Friday, and welcome to another week of things that are frugal and penny pinching! It's been a good week full of moments that aren't trivial at all!
This picture is of the golden hour on a sunny afternoon, sun streaming through the window curtains. We love our old-fashioned lace curtains, and of course, the sunshine at golden hour. There have been days long rainstorms this spring, so a bit of sun does our hearts good!
Over the course of the last week or two, God has stretched our pantry and fridge, which means we've spent less on groceries. My surprise and delight is that the groceries just stretch and last a long time! I'm praying over ways to decrease our spending at the grocery store more, but what a lovely gift from God!
My husband, Doc is on a break from school for the summer. I can't tell you how much he's been helping me around the house lately. We're working on areas that need a little attention and enjoying one another's company at the same time. What a blessing!
My Christmas quilt from last year sold this past week! That's a big blessing. I don't know who buys a Christmas quilt in the middle of May, but I'm so grateful! I'm able to start the next Christmas quilt and tuck a few pennies aside for later. Many of my patterns on Etsy have sold over the past week as well, so those are good things that bless the family!
I've been thinking lately about the Ben Franklin quote that says, "I make myself rich by making my wants few." As it turns out, that's pretty good wisdom. Each time I find myself wanting an item, I think about whether or not I already have something similar. This is huge when it comes to using the fabric stash! While it may take me a few minutes to locate and match the right background for a quilt, it sure is worth the time and energy! It means I don't have to spend upwards of 15 dollars a yard for background or other fabrics. This week, I was thinking I would need to buy Christmas fabric, but I found pretty reds and greens in my stash. What a blessing!
I'm revisiting a few books and movies that I particularly like. I spend part of my days hand quilting, which I find relaxing and fun. During those times, I listen to hymns or books, or I watch/listen to a movie I've already seen. I can only quilt for about an hour at a time, so these are short times of sitting still and relaxing! I enjoy keeping the home clean and tidy, along with making sure my laundry and dish systems are running well. I spend time doing those things, along with being in the garden, and this makes up the bulk of my inexpensive hobbies. I'm working on a specific pattern when I'm able, to sell the pattern eventually when it's ready. It's a blessing to have a hobby that is paying for itself!
It's been a simple, but frugal week of small things that add up to big blessings! I hope that you're able to afford to do a few small things that you enjoy each week, along with the natural rhythms of work God places in our lives. In fact, I pray that you enjoy your work, too! God bless each of you!
