#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Marvel running lean but strong this week as Thor and Hercules are fighting in a war across the galaxy and a little closer to home Daredevil meets the new Punisher. DC shows us the first Trinity team-up in Worlds Finest and Gotham City Sirens keeps trucking along. Image with something different with Standstill #1 while Thundercats show no sign of fatigue. About to close out August and that means the All C's Collector Showcase is close at hand September 6th – 8th. Lots to see, vendors to shop and guests to talk with in just two weeks, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly.
Destro #3> Stranded in the mountains without any weapons, Destro must survive the Chameleon's wrath. But who is the Chameleon? And why do they want Laird Destro dead? (S) Dan Watters (A) Andrea Milana, Andriano Lucas
Smurfs Take> The best part about this series so far has been no Joes. Let's be honest we all liked the Cobra characters better anyway and this has been a focus on Destro and how he functions in this world. It's a fight to see who's the top bad guy with the great twist on the twins and excited to see how the develop that. So good so far!
Wolverine: Revenge #1> HICKMAN AND CAPULLO JOIN FORCES FOR A WOLVERINE EPIC LIKE NO OTHER! Greg Capullo makes his grand return to Marvel Comics storytelling as he and Jonathan Hickman pit WOLVERINE against a cadre of foes who will turn his world upside down! He's been beaten! He's been bloodied! And LOGAN only has one thought on his mind: REVENGE! Don't miss this prestige miniseries, set to become one of the defining tales in Wolverine's storied legend! (S) Jonathan Hickman (A) Greg Capullo
Smurfs Take> Can you miss with a creative team like this? I have no idea what to expect and that's amazing. Capullo's style has changed so much since last he worked on the X-Men and I for one am excited to see his approach to Wolverine and whatever stack of villains the two are going to serve up. This is going to be intense!
Dark Knight of Steel: Allwinter #2> PART TWO
Deathstroke's past and present collide when he discovers the source of Vandar Savage's ire is being protected by Adeline, Deathstroke's wife. But what she has in her possession might be the only thing capable of stopping this endless winter for good. Crossing Vandar is dangerous enough, but their quest will barely have begun before tragedy strikes… (S) Jay Kristoff (A) Tirso Cons, Riccardo Federici
Smurfs Take> Great first issue, in for the for the ride! DC flexing the superior writing skill yet again. The setup for this story was flawless and love the art. Do not pass this one up.
Ultimate Spider-Man #8> KINGPIN'S SINISTER SIX! Kingpin gathers a team to deal with his masked-vigilante problem… But a group of super villains isn't the only challenge Spider-Man will face! Meanwhile, Green Goblin joins forces with…Doc Ock?
(S) Jonathan Hickman (S) Marco Checchetto
Smurfs Take> I'm always curious about the choices that are made when dealing with alt reality stories. So far, they have been fun and interesting and have kept the reader's attention with the differences. Some subtle and some not so much but for a Spidey fan this has been a great take and ready for more as we dive deeper into this reality and the true test of Hickmans skill as a writer.
Redcoat #5> Immortal mercenary Simon Pure is no Einstein. Lucky for him, Simon has the real one helping him. Except this Albert Einstein is 13 years old and still discovering the revolutionary genius he'll grow up to be. But, hey, that's still a lot smarter than Simon, who needs all the brain power he can get to defeat the hooded cult called The Founding Fathers. They've been hunting Simon for over a century, and now that they have him…what do they intend to do with him? (S) Geoff Johns (A) Andrew Currie, Brad Anderson, Bryan Hitch
Smurfs Take> I don't know why I enjoy this title as much as I do but it's great. It's been a fun read with every issue and to me has a real "Highlander" feel as we go stomping through history. At this point I think I just want to see where it goes but I do enjoy just how much of a mess Simon is and wondering if there's a major turning point coming for him.
Marvel Gallery Comic Silver Surfer Statue> A Diamond Select Toys release! Through the spaceways he soars! The Silver Surfer is an iconic member of the Marvel Universe, and this Gallery Diorama captures him in all of his glittering glory!
